Wyanga Aboriginal Aged Care is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation supporting Aboriginal Elders, clients and families across our community.

We are growing our Care and Wellbeing team and are looking for caring, reliable and respectful Care Workers to support Elders to live safely, independently and connected to family, culture, community and Country.

About the role

As a Care Worker, you will provide in-home and community-based support in line with individual care plans, goals and preferences.

No two days will look exactly the same. You may be supporting someone with personal care, preparing a meal, helping with household tasks, taking an Elder to an appointment or community activity, or simply providing meaningful social and cultural connection.

Key responsibilities

• Provide respectful personal care, including assistance with showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, continence, mobility and meals.
• Provide domestic assistance such as cleaning, laundry, meal preparation and maintaining a safe home environment.
• Support Elders with shopping, appointments, transport and community access.
• Assist clients to remain socially, culturally and community connected.
• Encourage independence by working with clients to do what they can safely do for themselves.
• Build positive relationships with Elders, families, carers and the wider Wyanga team.
• Observe and report changes in wellbeing, risks, incidents or support needs.
• Complete accurate care notes, attendance records and other documentation using mobile systems.
• Follow care plans, professional boundaries, work health and safety requirements and Wyanga policies.
• Participate in team meetings, training and professional development.

About you

• Is comfortable working independently in people’s homes and in community settings.
• Communicates clearly and can complete accurate documentation.
• Is willing to use mobile apps and electronic care systems.
• Can identify concerns and seek help or escalate issues when required.

Essential requirements

• Certificate III in Individual Support, Ageing, Aged Care, Home and Community Care, Disability, Community Services or a related field; or relevant experience and willingness to undertake training.
• Current or willingness to obtain a National Police Check and required aged care worker screening.
• Current First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain and maintain.
• Current unrestricted Driver Licence.
• Access to a reliable and roadworthy vehicle, with appropriate registration and insurance where a private vehicle is used for work.
• Satisfactory Australian working rights.
• Ability to complete all mandatory aged care training and compliance requirements.

Experience working with Aboriginal communities, within CHSP, Home Care Packages or Support at Home, or with people living with dementia or complex support needs will be highly regarded.
