This includes planning for the global digital economy, creating the transport and telecommunications systems of tomorrow and building a thriving and inclusive sport sector. Our priorities

• Transport connectivity—Supporting an efficient, sustainable, competitive, accessible, safe and secure transport system for all transport users through infrastructure investment, regulation and safety investigations.
• Regional development—Strengthening the sustainability, capacity and diversity of Australia's cities and regions including northern Australia, through facilitating local partnerships between all levels of government and local communities; investment in infrastructure and measures that stimulate economic growth; and providing grants and financial assistance.
• Territories—Supporting good governance and service delivery in the Australian territories.
• Sport—Building a thriving sport system to support healthy, active, connected communities and harnessing the once-in-a-generation opportunity of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games to bring social and economic benefits to Australia.
• Communications connectivity—Promoting an innovative and competitive communications sector so all Australians can realise the full potential of digital technologies and communications services.
• Creativity and culture—Promoting participation in, and access to, Australia's arts and culture through developing and supporting cultural expression.

Who are we looking for?

The Temporary Employment Register is open to candidates to submit an expression of interest for employment with the department. The Register enables us to access appropriately skilled and experienced individuals at short notice for non-ongoing or temporary positions.

Non-ongoing or temporary employment opportunities may be offered on a full-time, part-time or intermittent/irregular (casual) basis depending on business needs and requirements. Cultural capability requirement

The department believes every role contributes to cultural safety and that building staff cultural capability helps us deliver better policies, programs and services for First Nations people and the broader Australian community. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their willingness to develop their cultural capability as part of the assessment process. In making it a requirement across all roles in our department, we are taking a practical step in delivering our commitments under the Our Stories on Country Agreement and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy 2025–28.

Eligibility requirements

Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

• Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts applicants must be an Australian citizen. 
• Health Assessment: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
• Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline Vetting Level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. More information on the security clearance vetting process is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website.
• Police check: The successful candidate must complete an Australian Federal Police criminal history check.
• Integrity and Performance check: The successful candidate must satisfy the requirements in an Integrity and Performance check which is completed by your most recent employer.
