Heavy Vehicle Leading Hand - EV & High Voltage

About the role

This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced Heavy Vehicle Leading Hand to join the Victorian truck team at Vertu Group. You'll initially work across the diesel heavy vehicle fleet, leading by example in the workshop and supporting technicians with servicing, diagnostics, repairs and technical troubleshooting. As Vertu expands into electric heavy vehicles, with first EV truck deployment expected from Q1 2027, you'll play a key role in establishing Victorian EV truck technical capability, including high-voltage systems, diagnostics, commissioning, fault finding and field support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day technical work of the Victorian truck workshop
• Work hands-on across diesel heavy vehicles, including servicing, repairs, diagnostics and fault finding
• Act as the senior technical resource for truck technicians
• Support technicians with complex diagnostic and repair issues
• Assist with breakdowns and field service when required
• Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety and workshop practices
• Help develop and mentor other technicians
• Work closely with the Service Manager and wider Vertu team
• Support truck commissioning, inspections and pre-delivery preparation
• Take a leading role in EV diagnostics, high-voltage systems and technical support as EV trucks arrive

About you

• Strong experience working on heavy vehicles / trucks
• Heavy Vehicle trade qualification
• Excellent mechanical and diagnostic skills
• Experience working independently and solving complex technical problems
• The ability to lead a small team and be the person others turn to for technical advice
• A strong focus on safety and quality
• Good communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach
• A willingness to work in the field when required
• An interest in electric vehicles and emerging heavy vehicle technology
