About the role
Title:
Expression of Interest: Engineers Ready to Transition into Nuclear Facility and Infrastructure DesignYour Good Manufacturing Practice Experience Is More Transferable Than You Think
At KBR, we deliver science, technology and engineering solutions that help governments and businesses achieve some of their most complex objectives.
We are interested in connecting with engineers from pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences and other highly regulated industries who may not have previously considered a career in nuclear facility and infrastructure design.
As Australia continues to invest in its future nuclear capability through AUKUS and broader sovereign infrastructure programs, we know the nuclear sector cannot rely solely on traditional nuclear talent pools. However, many of the skills required already exist in adjacent industries.
If you've spent your career designing cleanrooms, containment facilities, sterile manufacturing environments, active pharmaceutical ingredient production plants or other high-purity facilities, you've likely already solved many of the same engineering challenges faced within nuclear facility and infrastructure design.
The terminology is different, but the engineering discipline is familiar.
Why We're Interested in Speaking with You
Engineers from Good Manufacturing Practice environments bring experience in:
These same fundamentals are central to the design and delivery of nuclear facilities.
You won't be starting from zero. You'll be applying established engineering instincts in a different context, with support from experienced nuclear specialists (Nuclear Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel) and structured learning pathways designed to build sector-specific capability over time.
Areas of Interest
We're keen to hear from engineers who have experience in:
We are particularly interested in professionals from:
What a Transition into Nuclear Could Look Like with KBR
Depending on your experience and interests, opportunities may arise across:
You'll work alongside multidisciplinary teams delivering complex, nationally significant infrastructure while developing an understanding of nuclear safety principles, regulatory frameworks and operational requirements.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in hearing from engineers who can demonstrate:
Why Consider Nuclear?
Nuclear infrastructure offers the opportunity to:
For many engineers, the transition is less about learning an entirely new profession and more about learning a new application for skills they already possess.
Why KBR?
KBR’s Infrastructure Solutions Australia business offers a wide range of professional services to private and public sector clients delivering projects in both urban and remote environments across transport, water, environment, buildings, and Defence.
We are committed to social and environmental sustainability and delivering projects with a digital mindset that drives innovation within our business, for our customers and stakeholders. Our continued growth allows us to offer unrivalled opportunities to our staff in terms of career paths, development, and project exposure.
What We Offer
Register Your Interest
If your background is in pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences or another high-containment engineering environment, and you're curious about where your experience could fit within Australia's future nuclear capability, we'd welcome a confidential conversation.
The regulatory language may be different. The engineering mindset is often the same.
KBR. Delivering solutions that make a difference.
