The Role
The Therapeutic Foster Care Case Manager is responsible for delivering trauma informed, culturally safe case management for Aboriginal children and young people in therapeutic foster care placements and home based care foster care placements.
This role places Aboriginal self-determination, cultural identity, and connection to Country at the centre of all practice. The Case Manager will ensure that Aboriginal children and young people are supported to remain connected to family, community, culture, and Country.
The role works collaboratively with carers, families, cultural mentors, therapeutic specialists, Child Protection, and other services to promote stability, safety, healing, and strong cultural identity for children and young people in care.
This position also supports the recruitment and retention of Foster Carers.
About You
Essential
Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services, Welfare, or a related discipline.
Experience in trauma-informed care and working with Aboriginal children and young people with complex needs.
Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to Aboriginal self-determination, community control, and cultural safety.
Experience working with Aboriginal children, families, and communities.
Strong knowledge of the Child Protection system, and Out of Home Care.
Ability to work in partnership with carers, families and stakeholders.
High level communication skills including a high level of accuracy, record keeping, and report writing abilities along with excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and consultation skills.
Knowledge of safe and appropriate culturally centred practices for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander focused services
Demonstrated understanding of social, physical, economical, and cultural strengths and challenges affecting Aboriginal communities and their ability to access adequate and quality services.
Understanding of the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organisation in both practice and culture.
Demonstrated understanding of social, physical, economical, and cultural strengths and challenges affecting Aboriginal communities and their ability to access adequate and quality services.
Desirable
Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
*A police check, Working with Children Check, Vaccination Certificate and current Driver Licence are required for all positions.
