Geotechnical Engineer Logger

We are currently seeking a Geotechnical Engineer Logger to join a leading mining operation in the Pilbara on a 12-month causal contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with geotechnical core logging experience who is looking to further develop their career within a highly regarded Surface Geomechanics team. Comprehensive in-house training and exposure to industry-leading geotechnical software will be provided.

The Opportunity

Working on an 8/6 FIFO roster, you will support the Geotechnical Studies and Planning Design Team by collecting and interpreting high-quality geotechnical data from diamond drill core and Optical Televiewer (OTV) image logs.

The role is based across well-equipped core shed facilities within the Central and Eastern Pilbara mining hubs, with accommodation provided in modern village facilities offering excellent recreational amenities.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical logging of diamond drill core.
• Collect high-quality rock mass and kinematic geotechnical data.
• Interpret and review Optical Televiewer (OTV) image logs.
• Support geotechnical investigations and planning studies.
• Maintain accurate geological and geotechnical records.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.
• Collaborate closely with the Perth-based Geotechnical Studies and Planning Design Team.
• Ability to adapt to the BHP work culture and preform as a team player in an inclusive environment

About You

To be successful, you will have:

• Australian working rights.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence.
• Experience logging geotechnical diamond core within hard rock and/or soft rock environments (approximately 2+ years preferred).
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geoscience, Geology or a related discipline.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
• An up-to-date resume with current contact details.

Highly Regarded

• Experience within open pit mining operations.
• Exposure to Optical Televiewer (OTV) logging.
• Experience using geotechnical software such as WellCAD, Vulcan, Leapfrog or the Rocscience Suite (training provided where required).
