Commis Chef | The Powerhouse Parramatta

Continue your career in one of Western Sydney's most exciting new kitchens. The Powerhouse Parramatta's major new dining destination is being brought to life by Executive Chef Simon Sandall, a chef with more than three decades of experience in Sydney's top kitchens, from ARIA to his own restaurant, Boronia Kitchen.

This brand new, purpose-built kitchen is fitted out with the latest fire, grill, and specialist equipment, and cooking over live fire will be part of daily life here from your first shift. If you've had a taste of fire cooking or trained in a kitchen with a strong live-fire and produce focus, this is a genuine opportunity to build on that foundation in a brand new venue.

This is role is for a motivated cook who wants to learn from an experienced, hands-on leadership team and build real skills in a fast-paced, fire-driven kitchen. You'll work across sections, absorb the standards of a premium kitchen from the ground up, and lay the foundation for a long-term career in hospitality.

Kitchen Support & Service

• Prepare mise en place accurately and on time, as directed by your Chef de Partie

• Support sections across the kitchen as required during service, including fire and grill stations

• Follow instructions and recipes precisely to maintain consistency

Learning & Development

• Develop foundational knife skills, live fire and grill technique, and produce knowledge

• Learn to work safely and confidently with brand new kitchen equipment

• Ask questions, take feedback, and apply it quickly

• Build an understanding of how a professional kitchen runs from open to close

Team Contribution

• Work as a reliable, positive presence within the team

• Communicate clearly and respectfully with senior chefs and colleagues

• Show up on time, ready, and willing to learn every shift

Operations & Compliance

• Follow all food safety, HACCP, and WHS procedures at all times

• Keep your section, equipment, and shared spaces clean and organised

• Assist with deliveries, stock rotation, and general kitchen upkeep

We Are Looking For

• Some kitchen experience preferred (apprenticeship, hospitality qualification, or hands-on experience — fire or grill exposure a strong plus)

• A genuine passion for food, live fire cooking, and hospitality

• A strong work ethic and willingness to learn

• Punctual, coachable, and a team player

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-standards environment with brand new equipment
