About the role
Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services Aboriginal Corporation (GYHSAC) is seeking a full-time Adult Health Registered Nurse.
About us
GYHSAC is the Community controlled Indigenous health provider to over 4000 residents of Yarrabah: Australia’s largest First Nations community. Located east of Cairns - less than an hour drive from the city centre.
GYHSAC is a cornerstone of the Yarrabah Community and strives to provide culturally appropriate, autonomous primary health services initiated, planned, and governed by the Community through their elected Aboriginal Board of Directors.
The Position
The position is responsible for the delivery of patient care and services that are aligned to the ACCHO model of comprehensive primary health care, to a standard that achieves prevention, early detection and best-practice management of health conditions within the Community.
Care coordination including community outreach services, pre-clinic screening and triage, patient caseload management, referrals, handovers, recalls, and case conferences, are key responsibilities within the scope of this position.
Skills and experience
AHPRA registration and a commitment to complying with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Competencies, Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Nurses in Australia.
A demonstrated knowledge of the health determinants faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will underpin your commitment. Proven experience in applying this knowledge within a community setting will be highly regarded.
In support of Gurriny Yealamucka's culture of cooperation, productivity and safety, you will be highly motivated to share your knowledge and expertise to support continuous quality improvement in clinical services.
In the true spirit of teamwork, you will also be willing and able to contribute to the capability development of your peers, students, graduates, junior nurses, and Health Workers.
Other position requirements
availability during clinic hours (8:00am - 4:30pm) Monday to Friday
commitment to maintaining ongoing CPR certification
current Queensland driver licence
Employment with GYHSAC requires you to have Australian citizenship, or to be a permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand, or to have a valid visa that provides work rights.
Benefits
You will be rewarded with:
an attractive remuneration package including comprehensive salary-sacrifice options designed to reduce tax and increase take-home pay
travel allowance to help with your daily commute
generous leave arrangements including ‘birthday leave’ and additional gazetted ‘special holidays’ for commemorative purposes
lifestyle friendly hours that won't interfere with your weekends
cultural and organisational orientation
professional development opportunity
strong and established ACCHS leadership
GYHSAC recognises and celebrates the diversity of our community, including in cultural backgrounds, languages, beliefs, and experiences. We acknowledge employees who come from different Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and non-Indigenous employees including those from linguistically diverse backgrounds, and we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive workplace for all.
