Land Acquisition Officer

Bring your expertise in land acquisition, negotiation and property to a role where your work directly enables major public projects and helps shape the future of the City of Wanneroo.

Reporting to the General Counsel, you’ll be responsible for administering land acquisitions for public works through negotiated agreement or compulsory acquisition, ensuring outcomes meet project requirements, legislative obligations and the City’s strategic objectives.

You will work across a diverse range of stakeholders and land matters, providing practical advice and managing negotiations while balancing the commercial interests of the City with the needs and circumstances of landowners.

Your key responsibilities will include:
• Managing and administering land acquisitions for public works, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and in accordance with relevant legislation.
• Negotiating with landowners and other stakeholders to achieve effective and sustainable acquisition outcomes.
• Providing advice and guidance on land management matters to support informed and timely decision-making.
• Administering non-strategic road dedications and closures.
• Managing Crown land transactions relating to Crown reserves.
• Preparing clear and audience-appropriate reports, correspondence and documentation.
• Maintaining accurate records, registers and systems to demonstrate compliance and support effective land management.
• Building strong and sustainable relationships with landowners, consultants, contractors, government agencies, other local governments and internal stakeholders.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and service delivery.

About you
You’re an experienced property or land professional who is comfortable working with complexity, negotiating outcomes and managing matters that require discretion, sound judgement and attention to detail.

You will bring:
• A qualification in a relevant discipline such as property law, land economics, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience in land acquisition, property or a similar field.
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to remain professional and empathetic while representing the City’s commercial interests.
• Highly developed research, analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight timeframes.
• Knowledge of the Land Administration Act and/or Local Government Act as they relate to freehold and Crown land.
• Sound computer and information systems skills.
• A current C class driver's licence.
