About the role
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Residential Care Officer to take day-to-day responsibility for the care, wellbeing and safety of participants living in one of our supported accommodation homes. Reporting to the House Supervisor / Service Delivery Manager, you will coordinate the delivery of individualised supports, supervise and mentor a team of support workers on shift, and ensure the home operates in line with participants' NDIS plans and the NDIS Practice Standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who is confident working with participants with complex support needs - including high physical support, behaviours of concern, and medical or mental health support requirements - and who can translate care plans into consistent, high-quality daily practice.
Key responsibilities
Assess the support needs of residents and contribute to the development, implementation and review of individual care plans, in consultation with participants, families, guardians and allied health professionals
Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day operation of the residential home, including shift planning, handovers, rostering input and allocation of duties to support workers
Supervise, direct and mentor support workers on shift, including induction, on-the-job coaching, monitoring of practice quality and completion of shift documentation
Provide and oversee personal care, mobility and manual handling support, medication assistance in line with organisational policy, meal preparation, and domestic assistance
Implement Behaviour Support Plans, including proactive strategies, ABC observations and accurate reporting of any restrictive practices
Support participants to build daily living skills, maintain community and social connections, attend appointments, and pursue goals identified in their NDIS plans
Maintain accurate case notes, progress reports, incident reports, medication charts and other records in line with NDIS and organisational requirements
Identify, report and respond to incidents, hazards, safeguarding concerns and complaints, and participate in follow-up and continuous improvement activities
Liaise with families, support coordinators, plan managers, allied health providers, medical practitioners and the NDIA regarding participant progress and changing needs
Monitor the household environment, including WHS compliance, emergency procedures, vehicle and equipment use, and household budgeting
About you
A qualification at AQF Diploma level or higher in Community Services, Disability, Individual Support, Social Work, Nursing or a related discipline; or an AQF Certificate IV in a relevant discipline with at least three years of relevant work experience
Demonstrated experience in a disability, residential care, aged care or community services setting, including experience supporting people with complex needs
Demonstrated experience supervising, coordinating or mentoring frontline care staff
Working knowledge of the NDIS, the NDIS Practice Standards and the NDIS Code of Conduct
Ability to implement Behaviour Support Plans and to record and report accurately, including in relation to restrictive practices
Competence in care documentation, incident reporting and rostering or care management systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and the ability to build respectful relationships with participants, families and external stakeholders
Sound judgement in responding to incidents and escalating risk appropriately
Availability to work a rotating roster, including mornings, evenings, weekends, sleepovers and active night shifts as required
NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance (or willingness to obtain)
