About the role 

City of Parramatta has an exciting 3-year term contract opportunity within the Integrated Grants and Projects team as a Special Projects Engineer. This role will be responsible for managing Council’s major flood and drainage studies and projects. The position will predominantly be focused on a planned $50 million flooding and drainage upgrade of Hill Road, Wentworth Point.

On a daily basis you will be required to: 

• Provide professional and specialist technical advice on engineering matters to the organisation and external customers to achieve positive outcomes.
• Provide professional and technical advice and guidance on planning instruments, guidelines, Flood DCP, Water Management DCP, and relevant strategies, studies, and policies relating to floodplain, drainage, estuarine, stormwater, and water quality matters.
• Assist the Project Manager – Strategic Projects to manage the Hill Road stormwater upgrade project including the review and coordination of Flood Study, Flood Risk Management Plan and Study, drainage and civil design and oversight of construction.
• Use and manage water management software applications to review and assess flood models, drainage designs and associated technical outputs.

About You: 
We are seeking an experienced civil and water engineer with 10+ years' experience in flood modelling, drainage design, and project management.

You are a strong communicator with the ability to prepare complex technical documentation and effectively manage consultants, technical stakeholders, and multidisciplinary project teams.

You will also bring:

• Demonstrated experience using civil engineering software, including the ability to review, interrogate, and assess hydrologic and hydraulic models, drainage and civil engineering designs, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical outputs.
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including proven experience preparing complex technical reports, assessments, and correspondence.
• Strong understanding of Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR2019), the NSW Flood Risk Management Framework, stormwater drainage design principles, and civil infrastructure delivery.
• Experience using and/or reviewing outputs from industry-standard flood, drainage, and civil engineering software, including TUFLOW, DRAINS, WBNM, HEC-RAS, WaterRIDE, QGIS/ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or 12d Model.

• Recognised Degree in Civil Engineering and eligible to be a member of The Institution of Engineers Australia
• Class C Drivers Licence
