Management Accountant

About the role 

As a Management Accountant within the Budget Management & Oversight team, you will help drive a consistent and effective approach to financial management across the department. You will work closely with Finance and business partnering teams to support the implementation of budget processes, governance and controls that align with the department’s broader finance strategy.

About you 

You are an experienced management accountant with strong analytical skills and a sound understanding of financial management, governance and budget processes. 

We are looking for someone who can: 

• Prepare and analyse budgets and financial reports 
• Strong Excel and systems skills, who can confidently handle data and navigate financial models and systems to analyse and interpret information efficiently. Experience using SAP and Prime would be highly regarded but is not essential.  
• Analyse and investigate issues, and identify financial risks and opportunities 
• Manage competing priorities and deliver accurate and high-quality work with attention to detail within tight deadlines  
• Work with stakeholders to improve financial processes and controls 
• Explain financial information clearly to different audiences 
• Maintain appropriate documentation and working papers to support financial analysis, budget process and decisions 
• Find practical solutions and look for ways to improve processes 
• Adapt to changes in financial systems and processes 

Key knowledge and experience 

• Experience setting management accounting governance and controls, and working with stakeholders to operationalise and implement 
• Substantial experience with management accounting and reporting risk identification and providing financial analysis and insights 
• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people. 

Essential requirements of the role 

• Degree in accounting or finance discipline and membership of a recognised Australian professional accounting association. 
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
