About the RoleIn conjunction with the Head of Enterprise Legal, the role is responsible for providing legal advice to Rest Business Units, Board and management regarding incidents, breaches, regulator engagements and regulator-initiated proceedings relating to Rest.
Where appropriate or required, the role will also assist with other matters being handled by the broader Enterprise Legal team.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide trusted legal advice on regulatory, licensing and compliance obligations impacting Rest.Partner with stakeholders to navigate regulatory requirements and emerging legislative changes.Support and manage engagements with key regulators, including ASIC and APRA.Lead regulatory disputes and litigation matters, working closely with external legal partners.Advise leaders on regulatory risks and considerations that support strategic decision-making.Monitor and interpret regulatory developments, translating impacts into practical business guidance.Support the management of Rest's licences and representative obligations.Collaborate across the Enterprise Legal team on a broad range of legal and business initiatives.Assist senior leaders in responding to government, parliamentary and regulatory enquiries.Represent Rest in industry forums and share insights on regulatory developments.Provide legal support on strategic projects, including reviewing documentation and communications.Draft and review policies, Board papers and governance-related reporting.Deliver legal training and build regulatory awareness across the business.Manage relationships with external legal providers, auditors, administrators and regulators.Foster a collaborative, knowledge-sharing culture and contribute to a safe and inclusive workplace.
QualificationsBachelor of Laws or appropriate business/law degree with admission in an appropriate jurisdiction.Hold a current Australian state based practising certificate
Required experience, understanding or credentials including:Prior post qualification experience in legal roles with an emphasis on financial services, ideally in superannuation.Thorough knowledge of legal obligations as they relate to superannuation funds and superannuation trustees.Experience in advising on incidents, breaches, regulator engagements and investigations.Experience in managing disputes.Must be commercially astute, possess strong analytical and research skills in complex legal/commercial problems and be capable of identifying and analysing the associated commercial and risk implications of such problems for the organisation.Experience in managing multiple projects, and prioritising competing deadlines.Strong commercial drafting skills with a focus on clarity and plain English.Ability to work in an environment requiring attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.Ability to work with all levels of the fund, well developed interpersonal skills and ability to liaise across the fund and its strategic partners as required will be well regarded.
