Australian Industrial Vacuum (AIV) is a well-established company supplying industrial vacuum systems to customers across a wide range of industries.

Based in Tullamarine, we source innovative products from around the world and provide complete local support, including custom assembly, onsite servicing and back-to-base repairs.

We are seeking a hands-on Workshop Manager to lead our small team of three workshop and warehouse employees.

This position would suit a qualified mechanic, mechanical fitter or experienced auto electrician who enjoys practical work and is ready to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a busy workshop and warehouse.

About the roleYou will coordinate the daily workload of the workshop and warehouse while remaining actively involved in mechanical assembly, servicing and fault-finding .The team is responsible for assembling trailers and Ute-mounted vacuum systems, preparing demonstration equipment, completing service work and managing warehouse operations.You will work closely with the sales and service teams to prioritise jobs, allocate work and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of three workshop and warehouse employees
• Plan daily workloads, allocate tasks and monitor progress
• Manage workshop, assembly, servicing and warehouse priorities
• Assemble and fit out trailers and Ute-mounted vacuum systems
• Diagnose mechanical and basic auto-electrical faults
• Install motors, belts and other mechanical or electrical components
• Oversee the preparation of demonstration, service and custom-built equipment
• Coordinate incoming and outgoing goods, stock movement and warehouse logistics
• Ensure tools, parts and materials are available for scheduled work
• Carry out quality checks before completed equipment is released
• Maintain an organised, clean and efficient workshop and warehouse
• Train, support and guide team members
• Promote accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement
• Ensure workplace health and safety procedures are followed
• Operate a forklift for loading and unloading when required
• Communicate progress, delays and operational requirements to management

About you

To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

• A recognised mechanical trade qualification, such as automotive mechanic, diesel mechanic, mechanical fitter or a similar qualification
• Strong hands-on mechanical assembly, servicing and fault-finding experience
• Previous experience leading or supervising a small team
• The ability to organise competing priorities and keep work progressing
• Practical auto-electrical knowledge or experience
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• A high level of attention to detail
• A reliable, proactive and hands-on approach
• The ability to work independently and as part of a small team
• A strong commitment to safe and efficient work practices
• A current Australian driver’s licence
• Australian working rights

A current forklift licence is preferred but not essential.
