Blacktown City Council
About the role
Lead with purpose. Shape progress for a growing city.
Accurate financial management helps Council deliver the services and infrastructure our community relies on every day. As Financial Accountant - Assets, you ensure Council’s asset records are accurate, compliant and audit-ready, supporting reliable financial reporting and long-term planning.
You coordinate the accounting of capital projects from work-in-progress through to completion, ensuring costs are correctly coded, projects are commissioned on time and assets are transferred into the fixed asset register. You create and maintain asset master data, prepare month-end journals and balance sheet reconciliations, and support the preparation of year-end financial statements to ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements. You also contribute to internal and external audit activities by providing accurate financial information, analysis, and supporting documentation to ensure ongoing audit readiness.
You work closely with engineering, project and asset management teams to record asset additions, disposals, transfers and revaluations. You support depreciation calculations, component accounting for infrastructure assets such as roads, bridges and stormwater networks, and help ensure Council’s asset valuations and disclosures align with accounting standards and NSW Office of Local Government requirements.
This role suits a collaborative and analytical finance professional with a degree in Accounting or a related field and demonstrated experience in asset accounting, ideally within a large organisation. In return, you gain meaningful work, employment stability, flexible working arrangements and opportunities to continue developing your career.
At Blacktown City Council, good people make great teams, and great teams build great cities. Here, you will find the stability and support to keep growing, along with:
