Apprentice - Sports Turf Management

Kick start your career in sports turf management with Green by Nature and gain hands-on experience maintaining some of Canberra's premier sporting facilities.

This four-year apprenticeship combines paid practical training with a nationally recognised qualification, giving you the skills, knowledge and confidence to build a long-term career in the industry. Working alongside experienced professionals, you'll learn how to maintain elite playing surfaces, including cricket wickets, AFL, rugby and soccer fields that host community and competitive sport throughout the year.

By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll be equipped with the practical skills and industry knowledge to progress into roles such as Team Leader, Supervisor or Site Manager.

What You'll Learn

Throughout the apprenticeship, you'll develop practical skills in:

• Sports field and turf surface maintenance
• Cricket wicket preparation and presentation
• Irrigation system installation, operation and maintenance
• Safe operation of turf machinery and equipment
• Soil management and plant nutrition practices
• Pest, weed and disease identification and control
• Sports turf renovation and construction techniques
• Chemical handling, storage and application
• Workplace health, safety and environmental practices

About You

No previous sports turf experience is required. We're looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work and is eager to learn a skilled trade.

You'll be:

• Reliable, hardworking and motivated to build a long-term career
• Keen to learn from experienced mentors
• Comfortable working as part of a team
• Physically fit and happy working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Able to communicate professionally with a diverse range of people

You already have, or are willing to obtain:

• White Card
• Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration
• Driver's licence (advantageous but not essential)

You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident and meet eligibility requirements for the apprenticeship and training program.
