Future Acts Officer

$85,000 per annum depending on experience

Based in our West Perth Office.

Native Title Services Goldfields (NTSG) is the recognised native title service provider for the Goldfields Region of Western Australia. Our staff are a dedicated, highly motivated and team-oriented group, operating in a fast paced, complex and dynamic working environment.

Our primary function is to protect and advance the native title rights and interests of the native title claimants and holders of the Goldfields Region.  This includes assisting native title claimants to have their native title rights and interests recognised by the Australian legal system.

We are seeking applications for the position of Future Acts Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and community-minded individual who is looking to contribute to meaningful outcomes for Traditional Owners while building a rewarding career within the not-for-profit sector.

About the role:

Working closely with NTSG’s Legal and Anthropology teams, the Future Acts Officer will support the administration and coordination of future act matters across the Goldfields region.

The role involves assisting with negotiations relating to mining, exploration and land access activities, maintaining effective stakeholder relationships, supporting Traditional Owner engagement, coordinating meetings and consultations, and contributing to positive native title.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively with Aboriginal people on native title, heritage, land access or related matters.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust, credibility and collaborative relationships with Traditional Owners, community representatives, stakeholders and industry participants.
• Well-developed organisational and administrative skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• The ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to work independently, while also contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
• Experience coordinating meetings, travel arrangements, fieldwork logistics and stakeholder engagement activities.
• An understanding of, or willingness to develop knowledge of, the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), Mining Act 1978 (WA), Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 (WA) and related legislation.
• A commitment to respectful engagement with Traditional Owners and continuous development of cultural capability.
• The ability and willingness to travel throughout the Goldfields region, including overnight stays when required.
• A current WA Driver’s Licence.
• A current National Police Clearance (less than six months old) or willingness to obtain one.

 Desirable

• Experience working in the native title, legal, mining, community engagement, government or not-for-profit sectors.
• Basic knowledge of tenement mapping and GIS applications.
• Knowledge of future act processes and agreement-making under the Native Title Act.
• Project coordination or stakeholder engagement experience.
• Experience working with Aboriginal communities and Traditional Owner groups.

Salary package up to $15,899 per year for living expenses that attract FBT, and an additional $2,650 per year for meals and entertainment.
