Northern Health
About the role
Company description:
As an organisation we have a clear focus on how we service and partner with our community, including our strategy of helping the community stay well when at home. Our reputation of community minded, inclusive and progressive is matched to none.
Job description:
Northern Health is seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Haematology Fellow/Trainees to join the Haematology department.
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our six main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.
About the Role:
An opportunity exists for a Haematology trainee interested in coagulation, thrombosis and haemostasis to join the team at Northern Health. This role will work alongside our accredited clinical haematology registrars and laboratory haematology registrar. The fellow will gain supervised experience across inpatient thrombosis consultation and specialised outpatient services including virtual thrombosis services. The fellow is highly encouraged to participate in research and quality improvement projects with opportunities for graduated autonomy and teaching, supporting the development of an academic and clinical expertise in thrombosis and haemostasis.
Northern Health provides a general haematology service that sees haematological conditions ranging from thrombosis and haemostasis to acute leukaemias. Our thrombosis service sees over 400 new thrombosis patients a year and leads a dedicated anticoagulation stewardship program. This role will be heavily involved in the virtual thrombosis service for the Hume region. We also have a well-established obstetrics haematology service with approximately 3500 births per year in our institution, while our malignant service sees a wide range of malignant conditions including acute leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and is supported by a clinical trials department. We also provide a comprehensive laboratory haematology service, which includes on-site special coagulation, flow cytometry, transfusion medicine and haemoglobin electrophoresis.
Research is also an integral part of the Haematology Unit at Northern Health. Our investigator-led haematology research focuses on thrombotic disorders and is facilitated by a dedicated thrombosis research laboratory at the Northern Research Precinct (NCHER). Research is led by the NECTAR (NorthErn Clinical diagnostics and ThrombovAscular Research) Centre, supported by several PhD students and post-doctoral research assistants, and offers numerous opportunities for registrar as well as higher research degree projects.
