Human Resources Assistant Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Manager to join our Human Resources team in Mulgrave, VIC!

What you will be doing

Employment Policies and Regulations

• Develop, review, and update HR policies to align with regulations and company standards.
• Ensure employees are informed of and comply with company policies.
• Resolve employee relations issues through mediation and dispute resolution.
• Keep policies and processes adaptable to market and regulatory changes.

Recruitment

• Partner with department managers on recruitment for all roles, including Rank & File.
• Develop and refine job descriptions to support a smooth hiring process.
• Design and execute effective recruitment strategies and process improvements.
• Supervise the recruitment team to ensure efficient, compliant interviewing and screening.

Employment Contract Management

• Propose competitive compensation packages to attract and retain top talent.
• Ensure contract templates meet regulatory and policy requirements, and issue timely offers.
• Oversee onboarding, including training and orientation for new hires.
• Notify relevant departments of new employee arrivals.

Employee Development and Training

• Develop a training plan to build skills and support career development.
• Help managers identify technical training needs for the training budget.
• Manage implementation and evaluation of training programs.
• Drive performance management and employee development plans.

Reporting and Analysis

• Prepare and submit HR management and statutory reports to support decision-making.
• Analyze employee and HR data to inform workforce planning and cost control.
• Provide recommendations and guidance to management on HR strategy.

Employee Relations

• Support managers with employee relations matters, including discipline and termination.
• Provide employee counseling to resolve issues and improve satisfaction.
• Manage mediation and conflict resolution to ensure fairness.

Compliance and External Relations

• Liaise with government departments and unions on compliance matters.
• Manage external partner and union relationships to protect company interests.
• Monitor regulatory changes and advise management accordingly.
• Lead labor relations and union negotiations fairly and equitably.

Project Management

• Lead HR projects on process improvement and efficiency, managing planning, budget, and execution.
• Identify HR challenges and develop innovative solutions.
• Organize HR events (annual dinner, team building, newsletters) with cross-functional teams.
• Manage event budgets, logistics, and vendor relationships.
• Evaluate event impact through feedback and drive continuous improvement.

HRIS and Employee Records Management

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date HRIS data through entry, updates, and periodic audits.
• Generate HR reports and analytics (turnover, workforce planning) to support decisions.
• Work with the HRIS provider on system enhancements and train HR staff.
• Resolve HRIS technical issues in collaboration with the HRIS team.
• Ensure file management complies with data protection and privacy policies.

Workers' Compensation Management

• Implement and oversee a Workers' Compensation scheme for employee wellbeing.
• Handle and investigate claims with employees, healthcare providers, and stakeholders.
• Manage insurer and medical provider relationships for timely treatment.
• Negotiate settlements for mutually beneficial outcomes.

Compensation and Benefits and Other Tasks

• Guide HRM team members on payroll and C&B tasks during staffing shortages.
• Process multi-region payroll accurately, including multi-currency and multi-tax calculations.
• Review and validate payroll data, and manage leave integration and balance reporting.
• Prepare payroll reports and ensure compliance with local and international regulations.
• Support payroll system maintenance and drive cross-region process improvements.
• Manage payroll for workers' compensation cases, employee rewards programs, and travel as required.

What we are looking for

• Full Australian working rights

• Current Australian driver's Licence

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

• Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field

• 3 + years experience in a similar role

• Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
