Building Maintenance Officer

Community Housing Limited is seeking a Building Maintenance Officer to support the ongoing functionality, safety and presentation of our residential buildings. This hands-on role helps deliver a high quality living experience for residents through routine maintenance, timely responses to repair requests and proactive building care.

This is a permanent full-time role based in the Brighton and Hampton East area of Melbourne, Victoria. It offers a competitive salary, salary packaging and the opportunity to be part of a supportive team committed to quality housing, resident experience and asset performance.

What you’ll do

As the Building Maintenance Officer, you will carry out routine inspections and maintenance, respond to resident-reported issues, support vacant property readiness, coordinate contractors and monitor building systems to help maintain safe, compliant and well performing residential assets.

Day to day, you will:

• Conduct routine inspections and cyclical maintenance across the BTR property portfolio.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and resident-reported issues.
• Identify building defects, hazards and risks and escalate issues as appropriate.
• Inspect and maintain vacant properties so they are secure, compliant and ready for re-occupancy.
• Coordinate cleaning, presentation standards and repairs that support timely re-letting.
• Assist with contractor coordination, onboarding, meetings and monitoring service KPIs.
• Check and report on building systems including HVAC, lighting, plumbing and fire safety equipment.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, safety and compliance records in required systems.
• Support minor capital works, refurbishments, improvement projects and asset inspections.
• Engage professionally with residents and provide respectful service when attending maintenance issues.
• Follow asset management plans and contribute to the upkeep and longevity of residential assets.
• Adhere to WHS policies, use appropriate PPE and apply safe work practices at all times.

What You’ll Bring

• Demonstrated experience in building or property maintenance, preferably in residential or Build-to-Rent environments.
• Experience conducting routine inspections and identifying maintenance needs across multi-unit residential properties.
• Familiarity with building safety, fire systems, essential services and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively across multiple sites and tasks.
• Experience working with contractors and service providers, including monitoring quality and timelines.
• Exposure to maintenance management systems or digital tools for logging and tracking work orders.
• Previous customer-facing experience with a focus on responsive and respectful resident service.
• Green/White Card, or willingness and ability to obtain one.
• Sound knowledge and application of WHS practices.
• A current Driver’s Licence.

Appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including Police, Working with Children and NDIS checks where applicable. All pre-employment checks will be arranged prior to start date.
