Southern Cross Electronic Security is seeking an experienced field technician to take a key role supporting one of our largest national client accounts, TOMRA Collections Australia.

If you enjoy working independently, solving problems in the field and having genuine variety in where you work, this is not your typical security technician position.

You will primarily support TOMRA's network of recycling facilities and Reverse Vending Machine sites across Sydney, regional NSW and interstate.

THE ROLE

This is a hands-on field service and installation position covering electronic security, communications and associated site infrastructure.

Your work will include:

• CCTV installation, servicing and fault-finding
• Access control and electronic locking systems
• Network and communications equipment
• Structured cabling and terminations
• Conduit and equipment installation
• Fault diagnosis and repairs
• Equipment and system upgrades
• Depot and container fit-outs
• Low-voltage electronic installation work
• Service reporting and job documentation
• Photographing and documenting completed works

You will generally work independently in the field, with direct technical support available from our Sydney-based engineering, helpdesk and senior technical team when required.

A NATIONAL ACCOUNT WITH VARIETY

TOMRA Collections Australia operates recycling facilities and Reverse Vending Machine locations across Australia.

Rather than attending the same type of site every day, you will work across a broad range of locations and technical environments, carrying out installations, upgrades, preventative maintenance and fault-finding.

You will become one of our key field technicians for the account and will build an excellent working knowledge of the systems deployed across the TOMRA network.

TRAVEL

Travel is an important component of this position, but it is not a permanent life on the road.

Based on the past two years, the position averages approximately 50 overnight travel days per year.

Travel is primarily within:

• Sydney and Greater Sydney
• Regional NSW
• Queensland
• Occasional other interstate locations, including Western Australia

For each eligible overnight travel day, an additional tax free travel allowance of $150 is paid.

Based on approximately 50 travel days per year, this has historically equated to approximately $7,500 per annum in additional travel allowances.

Hotel accommodation is arranged and paid separately by Southern Cross, so you are not expected to book or fund your own accommodation.

If you enjoy travelling for work and would rather have variety than spend every week working within the same part of Sydney, this aspect of the role can be a genuine benefit.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone with established experience in electronic security, data/communications or a closely related technical field service environment.

You should be comfortable attending sites independently, assessing problems, communicating with the client and working through technical issues without constant supervision.

You will ideally have practical experience with several of the following:

• CCTV systems
• Access control
• Electronic locking
• Structured cabling
• IP networking
• General low-voltage electronic systems

Strong cabling, installation and fault-finding skills are particularly important.

You do not need to know every system we use from day one. We have an experienced internal technical team and will provide training on our specific systems and equipment.

WHAT WE NEED

You must have:

• Current Australian driver's licence
• Full Australian working rights
• Relevant field service /electronic security experience
• Strong practical fault-finding ability
• High-standard cabling and installation skills
• Ability to work confidently without direct supervision
• Professional communication and customer service skills
• Willingness to undertake approximately 50 overnight travel days per year

A current NSW Security Licence is preferred. For an otherwise suitable candidate from a related technical background, we may consider someone willing and eligible to obtain the appropriate licence.

ABOUT SOUTHERN CROSS ELECTRONIC SECURITY

Southern Cross Electronic Security is part of the Southern Cross Group, a national provider of security and facilities management services.

Our electronic security division provides CCTV, access control, alarm, intercom, communications and integrated security solutions to commercial, government, industrial and strata clients throughout Australia.

This role is primarily dedicated to the TOMRA Collections Australia account, although you will also assist with other commercial projects when required.
