Assistant Store Manager

About the Role 

We are seeking a motivated, customer-focused and hands-on Assistant Store Manager to support the leadership of our retail team at the Armadale Store.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced retail professional looking to take the next step in their career with a globally recognised heritage brand. Working closely with the Store Manager, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service, driving sales performance, supporting team development, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the store. You will act as the key point of contact in the Store Manager's absence and help foster a positive, professional and high-performing team culture. 

The ideal candidate will have previous retail leadership or supervisory experience, excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for customer service and team development. 

This role requires flexibility to work on the days the Store Manager is absent. Additional workdays are negotiable in accordance with the hours outlined in your employment contract.

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead by example to deliver exceptional customer service and create positive customer experiences. 

• Support the Store Manager in the day-to-day operation of the store. 

• Process sales transactions, including cash, EFTPOS and credit card payments. 

• Assist with stock management, including receiving, pricing and maintaining product presentation. 

• Manage customer enquiries, returns, repairs and complaints professionally and efficiently. 

• Support staff rostering, attendance monitoring and timesheet approvals. 

• Assist with onboarding, training and coaching of team members. 

• Provide ongoing performance feedback and encourage a collaborative team culture. 

• Maintain store presentation standards and uphold the Birkenstock brand image. 

• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and workplace health and safety requirements. 

• Maintain accurate store records and communication logs. 

• Liaise effectively with the Store Manager, Retail Operations Manager, Human Resources and Head Office teams. 

• Act as the Store Manager when required to ensure continuity of operations. 

Key Skills 

• Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a retail sales, supervisory or leadership role. 

• Strong understanding of customer service principles and retail sales practices. 

• Demonstrated leadership and team supervision capabilities. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities. 

• Experience with cash handling and point-of-sale systems. 

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. 

• Experience with retail systems such as Lightspeed, Employment Hero, Pronto or similar systems will be highly regarded.
