Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples hold deep cultural knowledge, wisdom and ways of knowing that are fundamental to social and emotional wellbeing.

This role exists to strengthen how that understanding is respected and reflected across RFQ. You will support our people to build their cultural capability, reflect on their practice and provide services that are culturally safe, respectful and responsive for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

As our Australian Indigenous Cultural Advisor, you will work alongside staff and leaders across RFQ, creating opportunities for learning, reflection and stronger practice. You will provide culturally informed guidance, facilitate reflective practice and support people to better understand the importance of culture, identity, kinship, community, spirituality and connection to Country in social and emotional wellbeing. This is not a role about speaking for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is about bringing your cultural knowledge, professional experience and relational way of working to conversations that matter, helping others listen, reflect, learn and take greater responsibility for culturally safe practice.

The role operates with a high degree of professional autonomy, giving you scope to use your judgement, knowledge and experience in shaping how you work with people across the organisation. 

What you will bring

You will bring strong cultural knowledge, sound professional judgement and the ability to build genuine and respectful relationships across a diverse organisation.

You will have:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience relevant to the position; or an equivalent combination of less formal qualifications, cultural knowledge and substantial relevant experience.
• Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities, Social and Emotional Wellbeing principles, kinship, cultural identity, spirituality and connection to Country
• Demonstrated experience providing culturally informed advice, reflective practice, mentoring or workforce capability activities
• Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to build trust, support learning and guide culturally safe practice
• The ability to work with professionalism, confidentiality and cultural humility
