The Role
Working as part of a collaborative team, you will underwrite General Liability at a Senior level.
In this role, you will develop long-term, sustainable broker relationships through established networks and an allocated broker portfolio, working closely with the State Manager QLD. You will contribute to the profitable growth and strategic development of the QLD/NT portfolio while supporting broader business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead underwriting of General Liability products within delegated authority
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to Underwriters within the QLD team
Develop and maintain strong, senior-level broker relationships to support profitable portfolio growth
Deliver excellent service standards, ensuring high-quality underwriting decisions and timely responses
Evaluate, negotiate, and approve complex insurance quotations
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and portfolio profitability
Represent the organisation at industry events and relevant professional organisations
Collaborate with the State Manager in business planning, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic decision-making
Oversee adherence to underwriting governance, compliance standards, and risk appetite
About You
You are a highly experienced underwriting professional with strong technical capability and a commercial mindset. You are confident managing complex risks, influencing outcomes, and building trusted relationships at a senior level.
You bring a proactive approach to portfolio management, coupled with the ability to mentor others and contribute to broader business strategy.
Essential
Minimum 7+ years insurance industry experience in underwriting and/or broking
Strong technical underwriting capability across General Liability
Solid working knowledge of Financial Lines products
Proven ability to negotiate and approve complex insurance quotations
Strong broker relationship management and marketing skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High level of numeracy and analytical capability
Proficiency in Excel, Lotus Notes, and standard business software programs
Demonstrated leadership capability, interpersonal savvy, and ability to mentor others
Strong decision-making capability with a balanced approach to risk
Desired
Diploma or Degree in Business, Insurance, or a related field
Familiarity with Medical Malpractice and ICT liability products
Experience managing or supporting a regional underwriting portfolio
