We are seeking experienced APS 6 Project Support Officers to join Defence Secret Environment Delivery (DSED) Branch Cyber and Data Directorate team and contribute professional expertise to critical ICT projects. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work across an integrated work force of Australian Public Service (APS) and Australian Defence Force (ADF). This position will be located in Townsville, QLD, Other locations may be considered.

About our Team

The Cyber and Data team supports the following areas:

• Identity Credentials Access Management (ICAM).
• Cyber Security Assessment and Authorisation.
• Cyber Security Advice.
• Data Platforms & Management.
• Security Operations Centre (SOC).

Security Operations Centre (SOC) Desirable Skills:

• Risk and Issue management in a complex ICT project.
• Tracking and reporting of project progress against scope and schedule.
• Leading the engagement of technical stakeholders in Defence or a similar environment.
• Supporting the delivery of cyber security and/or data capabilities in government/large enterprise.

Project Support Officers drive innovation and advancement, working with industry and international partners to ensure our Defence Force is equipped for the future. Project Support Officers are functional and operational subject matter experts in an environment where priorities rapidly change.  

They standardise project management practices and artefacts to enhance project delivery efficiency and consistency. Tasks include project governance, stakeholder management, risk mitigation, performance reporting, preparing briefs, talking points and reports for executive & committee consideration.

We are seeking applications from experienced project support officers who are innovative, practical and solutions focused. The role involves complex problem solving, including risk and issue management. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish collaborative relationships are essential.

• Contributes operational expertise to support project management methodologies, including compliance with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
• Thinks critically, resolves problems using expertise and rapidly identifies alternative courses of action to reach an agreed outcome.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to establish and maintain robust stakeholder relationships.
• Works collaboratively to operate as an effective team member and provide constructive feedback.
• Provides technical/operational guidance and direction to a team through quality and improvement frameworks to drive organisational excellence.
• Analyses and responds to high-level technical enquiries by applying sound judgement and evidence-based decisions.

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
