Teacher - Junior Learning Support

We are currently seeking a dynamic and compassionate Teacher - Junior Learning Support.  This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' learning journeys by providing essential support within the classroom.

Your role:

The Teacher – Junior Learning Support, works to help create an inclusive learning environment at Canterbury College. They support students in their access to learning through the delivery of learning support programs and/or supporting students within their curriculum classes. The role also involves student case management and administration, liaising with students and parents, and collaborating with teachers in adjusting/modifying teaching and assessment. Junior School Learning Support Teachers work with the Head of Learning Support in the monitoring of student progress, collating evidence of adjustments and moderating NCCD decisions. They are expected to be a key advocate for students with identified learning needs/disabilities.

Responsibilities Include:

• Provide learning support and targeted interventions for students with diverse learning needs.
• Develop, implement and review individual support plans in collaboration with students, families and staff.
• Work closely with teachers to promote inclusive classroom practices and appropriate adjustments.
• Monitor student progress and use data to inform support strategies and interventions.
• Manage a caseload of students, maintaining effective communication with key stakeholders.
• Contribute to NCCD processes, learning support programs and whole-school inclusion initiatives.
• Attend meetings and teach classes as required.
• Undertake additional duties as directed by the Head of Learning Support or Senior Leadership Team.

Key Selection Criteria:

• Ability to liaise closely with teachers to plan, prepare and deliver learning and teaching programs across the year levels which meet the diverse needs and characteristics of students and are consistent with relevant syllabi followed by the College.
• A demonstrated ability to work alongside teachers to apply the principles of inclusive teaching and learning, including the use of learning technologies and assessment, to create a supportive and challenging environment in which students are supported in achieving to their potential.
• Ability to build relationships and partnerships with students, parents, fellow staff and the wider community through the use of well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
• A demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with fellow staff and members of the wider community to establish productive partnerships which facilitate optimal student outcomes.
• High standards of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and resilience.
• Knowledge of, and experience with the approaches to supporting children with additional needs.

Essential Qualifications / Criteria

• Current Queensland College of Teachers Registration
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check – Queensland) or eligibility to obtain one prior to commencement.
• Commitment to child safety and the wellbeing of young people.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage students, parents, coaches, and staff.
• A genuine commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion, and holistic development.
• Demonstrated experience supporting students with diverse learning needs and disabilities.
• Demonstrated understanding of the Disability Standards for Education and NCCD requirements.
• Experience developing and implementing learning adjustments and support plans.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to analyse student data and monitor intervention effectiveness.

Desirable Qualifications

• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Qualification in Special Education, Inclusive Education, Learning Support or equivalent.
• Experience with evidence-based literacy and numeracy intervention programs.
• Experience supporting students with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and other neurodiverse profiles.
