Spectrum Automation
About the role
At Spectrum Automation, we're a team of problem-solvers, innovators, and trusted partners delivering intelligent automation solutions that drive real-world performance. For over 30 years, we've partnered with clients across manufacturing, infrastructure, utilities, food & beverage, water, energy and industrial sectors to improve productivity, reliability and performance through smart engineering.
As part of Sentra Group, this is an exciting time to join our journey. We're investing in our people, strengthening our service capability and taking on increasingly complex automation projects across Australia.
We're now looking for an experienced Automation Team Lead – Service to lead and develop our Melbourne service team.
About the Opportunity:
This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced people leader with a strong industrial automation background. You’ll coordinate a fast-moving service workload and provide credible technical support when the team needs it.
You’ll lead and develop our Melbourne automation service team – setting clear expectations, building capability and accountability, and creating a culture where people communicate, collaborate and deliver.
You’ll manage priorities, client communication and service delivery across reactive breakdowns, planned maintenance, shutdown support and small-to-medium automation works. As a key point of contact for clients, you’ll ensure expectations are clear and the team delivers a responsive, high-quality service.
In this role you will:
Lead, mentor and develop a team of automation technicians and field service engineers.
Set clear expectations and create a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Hold regular one-on-ones, provide constructive feedback and support individual development plans.
Coordinate workloads and priorities across breakdowns, maintenance, shutdowns and project work.
Monitor team utilisation, productivity and delivery performance.
Act as a senior escalation point when the team needs support with complex automation and control system issues.
Build strong client relationships and communicate clearly around priorities, risks, expectations and outcomes.
Support quoting, scoping and identification of follow-up works and improvement opportunities.
Help drive a consistent, responsive and high-quality service experience across the team.
The role includes client engagement, quoting, identification of follow-up opportunities and maintaining commercial discipline across service delivery.
What We're Looking For:
We're interested in speaking with experienced people leaders who also have a strong industrial automation background.
To succeed in this role, you'll ideally bring:
Proven experience leading, coaching and developing technical teams.
The ability to set clear expectations, manage performance and hold constructive conversations.
A leadership style that combines accountability with genuine support and development.
Strong practical experience across industrial automation, including PLC, SCADA, HMI and industrial communication systems.
Hands-on experience with breakdowns, fault-finding, maintenance and commissioning in live industrial environments.
The technical capability to troubleshoot complex control system issues and support the team when escalation is required.
Strong client communication and stakeholder management skills.
Commercial awareness, including experience scoping, quoting or delivering service works and automation projects.
A strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
Why Join Spectrum Automation?

This is an opportunity to have a genuine impact on the way our service team operates – developing people, strengthening capability and helping create an environment where both our team and our clients feel supported.
What's on Offer?
A genuine leadership role with the opportunity to shape and develop a growing technical service team.
A balance of people leadership, service coordination and hands-on automation.
Exposure to a broad range of clients, industries and automation technologies.
Exciting, varied and technically challenging work.
Competitive remuneration based on experience.
Ongoing leadership and professional development.
A supportive, values-driven culture focused on collaboration and continuous improvement.
