Program Officer

Details: The Climate Change, Energy, Water and Waste Division ensures the ACT remains a national and global leader in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable energy and water supply and use. Through policies and programs including active engagement with the community, we seek to reduce energy, water and waste use, support renewable energy, promote environmentally sound transport choices, reduce waste/water and improve its management, improve information on climate change and increase resilience to our changing climate. These activities occur in all sectors including government, schools, business, community and households, and contribute to Canberra’s growth as a dynamic, sustainable and prosperous city.

We are seeking motivated and relationship-focused Program Officers to support the delivery of programs that help households and businesses reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency and contribute to Canberra’s transition to a net-zero future.

Working within the Climate Change, Energy, Water and Waste Division, you will contribute to program delivery through stakeholder engagement, contract management, performance monitoring and partnership development. You will collaborate with businesses, service providers, industry representatives, government stakeholders and internal teams to support program participation, deliver practical sustainability outcomes, and ensure effective program administration and compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:  

• A current ACT or equivalent driver’s licence may be required.
• Some weekend and after-hours work may be required.
• Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to: Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra.
• Qualifications and/or knowledge in a relevant field such as public policy, water resource management, environment, energy and climate change, behaviour change, or project management is highly desirable.

Notes: There is one permanent position and one temporary position available immediately for a period of up to 12 months with a possibility of permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill both full-time temporary and/or permanent vacancies in Program Delivery roles across the Climate Change, Energy, Water and Waste Division over the next 12 months.
