SolidWorks Draftsperson / Mechanical Draftsperson

Cays Engineering is seeking an experienced SolidWorks Draftsperson / Mechanical Draftsperson to join our drawing office in Mandurah.

We provide engineering, fabrication and maintenance services to the mining and heavy industrial sectors, with our drafting team supporting a wide range of fabricated equipment, structures and mechanical components.

This role would suit someone with strong SolidWorks drafting skills who also has practical industry knowledge of plate manufacture, steel fabrication and welding processes.

Working within our design and drafting team, you will be responsible for producing accurate 3D models and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks, taking projects from initial information through to workshop-ready documentation.

Typical work includes:

• 3D modelling and fabrication drawings in SolidWorks

• Heavy fabricated platework and structural assemblies

• Chutes, liners, wear components and fixed-plant equipment

• Frames, platforms, supports and transport structures

• Weldments and fabricated assemblies

• General arrangement and detail drawings

• Bills of materials and cut lists

• Updating and modifying existing equipment and legacy drawings

• Reverse engineering components from measurements and existing drawings

• Producing DXFs and other manufacturing information for workshop use

• Checking drawings for dimensional accuracy, manufacturability and completeness

• Liaising with designers, engineers, project managers and workshop personnel

The successful applicant will have strong practical drafting skills and a good understanding of fabrication and manufacturing requirements.

You should have:

• Strong proficiency with SolidWorks

• Experience producing detailed fabrication drawings

• Good knowledge of plate manufacture, steel fabrication and welding processes

• Experience with weldments, platework and fabricated assemblies

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications

• Good understanding of tolerances, fits, weld details and workshop requirements

• Ability to create clear, accurate and easy-to-follow drawings

• Strong attention to detail

• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a small drafting team

Experience within mining, fixed plant, mechanical equipment, structural steel or heavy fabrication would be highly regarded.

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

• Site measurement and equipment verification

• Designing or detailing chutes, wear liners and mining equipment

• Working directly with fabrication workshops

• Drawing control and revision management

We are looking for someone who takes pride in producing accurate, practical and well-presented fabrication drawings.

You will understand the importance of considering fabrication methods, material preparation, welding, assembly, fit-up and installation requirements when developing drawings for manufacture.

You will be comfortable working through practical design and drafting issues, communicating with the wider project team, and contributing to efficient and reliable fabrication outcomes.
