About the role
Job Description
Create your best future and join Westpac as a Cloud DevOps Engineer - AWS.
What’s the role?
An exciting opportunity is available for a Cloud DevOps Engineer to join the Enterprise and Computer Storage Services team within Group Technology.
This team supports internal customers across the bank in their cloud journey by providing AWS solution guidance, technical discovery, pattern advice, and enablement support. The role works closely with customer teams and platform product teams responsible for a broad range of AWS capabilities, including emerging AI and generative AI services.
As a Cloud DevOps Engineer, you will help customers design, build, and operate secure AWS solutions across a wide range of projects — from core cloud platform work through to AI and generative AI workloads. You will support solution shaping, technical investigation, automation, documentation, and the coordination of feature uplift or new pattern requests.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on customer enablement, secure AWS design, automation, and practical delivery outcomes.
It is also a fast-paced, high-accountability role in a highly regulated environment. You will balance multiple concurrent engagements, shifting priorities, and tight delivery and compliance deadlines. We are looking for people who genuinely thrive under pressure — who stay calm, organised, and outcome-focused when priorities compete and the stakes are high. If you enjoy a demanding, high-energy environment where your work has real impact, this role is for you.
What do I need?
Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud-native services such as VPC, IAM, EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, CloudWatch, and KMS; relevant AWS certifications (e.g. Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Security – Specialty) desirable.Exposure to AI and generative AI services on AWS, such as Amazon Bedrock, Bedrock AgentCore, and Amazon SageMaker, with a genuine interest in growing in this space.Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (preferably Terraform) and CI/CD practices using tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions for application and infrastructure delivery.Strong understanding of cloud security and operational practices, including IAM, RBAC, network security, secrets management, encryption, monitoring, logging, and production readiness.Experience with containerisation and microservices patterns using Docker and Amazon ECS.Ability to analyse customer requirements, ask good discovery questions, and translate technical needs into practical solution options.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a problem-solving mindset and the ability to work across multiple teams, manage ambiguity, and stay effective under pressure in a fast-paced, highly regulated enterprise environment.
Why join us?
