Disability Support Worker (Casual)

We are looking for a casual worker to assist a 71 year old male client by performing predominantly domestic duties (mostly meal preparation), helping with hobbies and attending appointments for 3 hours per day, 3 days per week. The successful applicant will work together with both the client and his wife in their home. The client uses a wheelchair but transfers independently, has good communication and no personal care is required.

This position is casual 9.30-12.30 Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is some flexibility in start and finish times but not regular work days. From time to time we can vary the days when needed either for the client or support worker to ensure a good working relationship and work/life balance. There is also potential to extend these shifts when needed.

The position would suit a mum with children at school as long as she is reliable.

· Experienced home cook. Bonus points if you have experience cooking for special diets as the client is diabetic. Recipes are provided but client is always looking for new ideas.

· Physically in good health and reasonable level of fitness (for lifting manual wheelchair in and out of van, pushing wheelchair etc).

· Has Christian values and understands that this is a conservative Christian household where you will hear regular conversation about faith, morality and politics.

· Full license, good driving record and willingness to drive client in his own medium sized wheelchair van. Worker will be required to get electric or manual chair in and out of van.

· Sense of humour.

· Dog friendly (client has a very sweet greyhound).

· Able to work during school holidays.

· Reliable, have good attention to detail and initiative.

Duties will vary shift to shift, this list is indicative but not exhaustive. The primary focus will be on meal preparation to ensure client’s healthy diet is maintained.

· Meal preparation

· Grocery shopping

· Light domestic duties such as hanging washing, dishes, putting bins out, ironing, occasional vacuuming

· Driving client to appointments or shopping

· Assisting client with hobbies at home and tidying/organizing his space

· Gardening

· Cleaning wheelchair van

· Assisting with care of greyhound

Pay: $36.81 – $45.28 per hour

Expected hours: 3.0 – 9.0 per week
