Assistant Accountant

The Company

VSA Roads is an amalgamation of seven independent brands that provide bituminous and quarried products, coupled with specialist contract paving and bituminous surfacing services, to the South Australian, Victorian, Southern New South Wales, Northern Territory and Tasmanian markets. 

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Accountant to join our busy team in Laverton.  

Reporting to the Assistant Finance Manager, you will bring your solid understanding of accounting principles and excellent analytical skills to the role and be responsible for a variety of financial and accounting tasks related to the efficient operation of VSA Roads. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Process weekly payroll

• Prepare reports on a weekly, monthly and annually basis as required

• Payment and reporting of payroll compliances to external stakeholders i.e. superannuation, child support, incolink, leavePlus, workcover etc

• Responsible for producing and analysing monthly financial accounts, assisting in budgets and management reporting

• Liaise with the company's auditors

• Maintain the General Ledger, set up new accounts and cost centres when required

• Enter sales invoices to accounting system, process receipts and maintain debtor report

• Manage company bank accounts, payment approvals, bank reconciliations and cashflow reviews

• Complete BAS returns including fuel tax credit calculations and providing advice on compliance with BAS regulations as required

• Manage bank guarantee requests

• Complete environmental reporting compliances

• Ensure compliance of ABS reporting on business measures including capital spend and high-level profit and loss on projects

• Ad hoc tasks as directed by the Assistant Finance Manager

The Ideal Candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting or similar

• CPA/CA equivalent (or studying toward)

• Previous experience in a similar role

• Intermediate Excel/Word skills

• Experience in the civil construction or manufacturing industries will be an advantage but not necessary

• A strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy

• Effective organisational & time management skills
