About the Role The Policy and Project Officer is responsible for providing policy related advice and support within the Office of the Commissioner, including: Undertaking the development, implementation and review of policies, functions, and arrangements in line with national and state directions.
Building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Developing high-level communication materials to promote the Office of Commissioner. Undertaking research and analysing documents.
Developing and reviewing reports, business cases, plans, briefing notes and other documentation. The position operates with a high degree of autonomy and has responsibility for dealing with a range of high level, complex and confidential issues for the Commissioner, often within tight timelines, under the supervision and guidance of the Director Office of the Commissioner. The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-motivated individual who is resilient and can thrive in a high paced, high-pressure environment.
The candidate will have experience in policy and project development with well-developed written communication skills and can prepare and review a range of documents and reports in time constrained environments. In addition to having excellent organisational skills and the ability to effectively engage, negotiate and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders. Leadership Behaviours are applicable to this role, and you are expected to demonstrate the relevant behaviours aligned to the context of Personal Leadership.

Choice of Super The Fire and Emergency Services (Superannuation Fund) Regulations 1986, prevents DFES from offering choice of super for permanent appointments. Those appointed permanently, only have the following two options: Remain with their existing GESB Superannuation account; or Join the Fire and Emergency Services Superannuation Fund (Click here for more information).
Those appointed on a fixed term contract do have choice of super, however if converted to permanent, employees will need to choose one on the two options listed above.
