Heavy Diesel Mechanic

About the role

This role involves servicing, maintaining, testing and repairing prime movers, trucks, buses, light to heavy vehicles, plant equipment and trailers. You will diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension and hydraulic systems, and perform basic electrical diagnostics and repairs using diagnostic computers and equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Service, maintain, test and repair prime movers, trucks, buses, light to heavy vehicles, plant equipment and trailers

• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension and hydraulic systems

• Perform basic electrical diagnostics and repairs

• Use diagnostic computers and equipment to troubleshoot faults and complete repairs

• Carry out preventative maintenance, including engine tune-ups, oil changes, filter replacements, tyre rotations and changes, and wheel balancing

• Inspect vehicles and equipment to identify additional repairs and preventative maintenance requirements

• Complete welding and general mechanical repairs

• Respond to breakdowns when required

• Complete job cards and paperwork for every job, including all repairs performed and parts used

• Ensure all work meets safety, quality and compliance requirements

About you

• Diesel Mechanic trade qualification or equivalent

• Experience working on heavy diesel equipment, trucks and trailers is highly regarded

• Experience with prime movers, light and heavy vehicles, plant equipment and trailers

• Strong mechanical, diagnostic and fault-finding skills

• Experience with basic automotive electrical diagnostics and repairs

• Welding and fabrication experience

• Current Australian driver's licence

• Heavy rigid licence preferred, or willingness to obtain one

• Self-driven, practical and willing to bring a positive, can-do attitude

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
