We exist to shift the narrative and smash the stigma surrounding miscarriage by elevating evidence-based research, facilitating meaningful peer connection, and acknowledging the diversity of people's experiences.We are driven by empathy, candour, and trust. We lead with the truth and back up everything we do with clear data and evidence so no one has to walk the journey of early pregnancy loss alone.
Strategic Vision & Role Purpose
Our strategic goal is to establish Pink Elephants as a sector leader in early pregnancy loss data. We aim to capture, analyse, and elevate nuanced data intersections—exploring how demographic factors, diverse types of early loss, and individual lived experiences shape community needs.
As our Head of Data and Insights, you will drive this vision forward. Working as a hands-on individual contributor in a small, agile team, you will blend high-level strategy with daily execution. You will turn raw quantitative and qualitative data into powerful, human stories that validate community experiences, prove program impact to secure funding, inform targeted partner campaigns, fuel safe and ethical research collaborations, and equip our CEO with the evidence needed to lead groundbreaking advocacy campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
Advocacy, CEO Support & Community TrendsIdentify Emerging Needs: Track, monitor, and analyse trends in the changing needs, challenges, and experiences of our early pregnancy loss community.Fuel Strategic Advocacy: Work directly with the CEO to translate data-driven community trends into compelling evidence to power systemic advocacy campaigns and policy submissions.Sector-Leading Insights: Deep-dive into nuanced data intersections, examining how demographic factors, types of early pregnancy loss, and unique lived experiences impact community needs.
Research Collaboration & Data StorytellingSafe & Ethical Research Support: Partner closely with the Head of Programs and Research to provide de-identified, robust datasets that support internal and external research collaborations safely, ethically, and sustainably.Back It Up with Evidence: Analyse quantitative and qualitative datasets to turn complex evidence into clear, actionable, and compassionate stories.Contextual Analysis: Apply an understanding of public health, epidemiology, and mental health structures to contextualise our findings against the broader health landscape.
Impact Measurement, Funding & Partnership SupportDemonstrate Program Impact: Work with the Head of Programs and Research to track, measure, and evaluate long-term program outcomes over time to directly inform and support ongoing funding requests and grant applications.Donor Database Insights: Collaborate with the Head of Partnerships to segment our donor database, analyse giving behaviors, and identify meaningful trends.Targeted Campaign Support: Partner with the Head of Partnerships and Marketing Lead to apply donor insights to targeted, highly resonant fundraising and awareness campaigns.
Ecosystem Connection & External LiaisonRepresent Pink Elephants: Serve as an authentic, knowledgeable representative in external health data forums and sector working groups.Integrate External Ecosystems: Map and integrate relevant datasets from the Australian health ecosystem to enrich our internal models and strengthen sector-wide advocacy.Jargon-Free Communication: Translate complex technical and clinical findings into clear, accessible language for all stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement & Data ManagementBe "On the Tools": Perform hands-on data cleaning, extraction, modeling, and reporting as our primary internal data expert.User-Friendly Dashboards: Maintain clean, intuitive visual dashboards using Power BI or Tableau.Build Team Capability: Share best practices across our distributed, hybrid team to eliminate data silos and build a consistent data culture.Governance Alignment: Work under the guidance of the COO (who retains overall responsibility for data governance, safety, and compliance) to safeguard privacy standards.
Tech & AI CollaborationUplift Capability: Partner closely with the Tech & AI Specialist to adopt safe, ethical AI tools that enhance data collection, analysis, and efficiency.Seamless Integration: Ensure new technology and AI tools integrate smoothly into our overall data infrastructure.
Selection Criteria - Skills & ExperienceEssential:Health & Social Research Expertise: Background in Public Health, Epidemiology, Mental Health, Health Sciences, or Social Research/Evaluation.Advocacy & Trend Analysis: Demonstrated ability to identify shifting community trends and translate complex evidence into messaging that supports public advocacy or policy change.Mixed-Methods Analytics: Skill in handling both quantitative datasets and qualitative lived-experience narratives.Sector-Leading Vision: Understanding of how to analyse nuanced data intersections (e.g., demographics, loss types, health access barriers).Visualisation & Tools: Advanced skills in Power BI or Tableau, with strong technical capability in data management.Ethical Data Management: Proven understanding of how to prepare de-identified datasets safely for research, campaign, and partner usage.Clear, Warm Communication: Ability to translate complex data into jargon-free, compelling human stories.Hands-On Agility: Comfortable operating as an individual contributor balancing strategic output with day-to-day execution in a small, collaborative team.Location: Sydney-based with the ability to work in a hybrid setup across a distributed team. 2 days in Botany office minimum. Desirable:CRM Expertise: Hands-on experience with Salesforce or equivalent platforms.Grant & Funding Support: Experience structuring impact data specifically for grant reporting, government submissions, or philanthropic pitches.AI/Automation Curiosity: An eye for how emerging AI tools can safely optimise data workflowsDonor & CRM Analytics: Experience analysing donor behaviors, customer journeys, or database segmentation to support fundraising strategies.
