People & Safety Officer

Trust for Nature is a not-for-profit conservation organisation that works to protect native plants and wildlife in cooperation with private landholders. Created in 1972 under the Victorian Conservation Trust Act 1972 (Vic), Trust for Nature has a proud history of working across the government, not-for profit and private sectors to achieve permanent protection of important conservation land across Victoria.  

About the role 

We’re searching for a highly organised People and Safety Officer to join our passionate team. 

Working closely with the People & Safety Manager, you will support the day-to-day operations of our People & Safety function, you'll be involved in everything from recruitment and onboarding, HR administration through to safety coordination, internal communications and learning & development. You'll help ensure our People & Safety processes and activities run smoothly while contributing to a positive, safe and supportive workplace.

What’s on offer 

The role offers an annual base salary of $74,844, plus 12% super (full-time equivalent).  

We are open to full‑time and part-time arrangements, with a minimum of 0.80FTE. We welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible work arrangements. The role operates in a hybrid model, with a blend of work from home and face‑to‑face days based at our Melbourne CBD office.

About you 

This role is ideal for someone with a passion for people, wellbeing and safe workplaces. To be successful in this role you will bring: 

• Previous experience in an HR, OHS, or related administration or operational support role.
• A practical understanding of relevant legislation and regulations.
• Exceptional organisational, planning and time-management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and administrative skills.
• Ability to interpret and explain concepts and policies and give guidance to others.
• Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive, solutions-focused and comfortable working with ambiguity.
• Qualifications in Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety are desirable but not essential
