The Opportunity
St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar is seeking an enthusiastic and accomplished Head of Junior Choral / Choral Program Specialist to join our Performing Arts team in a part-time 0.4 FTE capacity.
This 12-month, part-time opportunity would suit a passionate music educator looking to make a meaningful contribution to a thriving school music program while working in a reduced FTE role.
You will lead and nurture our Junior Choral Program, helping students from Years 2 to 6 develop their confidence, musicianship and love of singing.
Working closely with the Director of Music, Learning Leader for the Performing Arts and Junior School Music Teachers, you will play an important role in creating a connected and engaging approach to choral music across the School.
About the Role
As our Head of Junior Choral, you will:
Conduct and lead Years 2–6 Choirs, fostering students’ musical development, confidence and enthusiasm.
Plan and lead engaging weekly choir rehearsals.
Develop a structured and engaging Junior School Choral Planner.
Prepare ensembles for performances including assemblies, soirées, concerts and other School events.
Select and develop repertoire that supports students across a range of abilities and experience.
Work collaboratively with the Director of Music and Junior School Music Teachers to strengthen the School’s approach to choral music.
Collaborate with the Senior School Vocal Ensemble where required.
Potentially provide additional vocal teaching to further develop students’ vocal skills.
Create an inclusive and positive environment where students are encouraged to participate, perform and develop a genuine love of music.
About You
You will be an engaging and collaborative music educator who brings energy, creativity and a genuine passion for developing young musicians.
You will demonstrate:
Strong knowledge and experience in choral direction, vocal development and music education.
The ability to inspire and engage primary-aged students with varying levels of musical experience.
Strong rehearsal, organisation and performance preparation skills.
An ability to develop positive relationships with students, colleagues and families.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A creative, flexible and collaborative approach.
A commitment to ongoing professional learning and contemporary teaching practice.
A strong commitment to student wellbeing and creating a safe, inclusive learning environment.
