Senior Commercial Litigator

DCM Lawyers is a well-established boutique inner city law firm located in newly fitted heritage office space on Collins Street.  We have an opportunity for a senior litigation lawyer to join our team.

The successful applicant will join our new Commercial / Commercial Litigation Team and work alongside five experienced lawyers ranging between 3 and 35 years PAE experience.  You will be expected to carry your own file load, working directly with business owners, executives, and in‑house teams to understand their commercial objectives and help them to navigate litigated and non-litigated disputes.

You will manage a broad spectrum of commercial dispute files, including high quantum complex property matters, sports and entertainment law disputes, director and shareholder conflicts, construction disputes, regulatory body investigations, and trust litigation.  You will have autonomy in the running of your files, whilst having the support of junior and senior practitioners as is required.    You will brief junior and senior counsel, experts and instruct at trial.  You will also be encouraged to do your own court appearances if appropriate.

About you

 We are looking for an experienced litigation lawyer with the following skills:

1. 7+ years of experience practicing in commercial litigation and dispute resolution ideally in County, Supreme and Federal Court jurisdictions;

2. Advanced legal research skills;

3. Communicates, manages, and interacts well with clients;

4. Experience representing clients in mediations with and without counsel;

5. Understands and explains complex legal processes and concepts to clients;

6. Ability to draft pleadings, affidavits, and court documents;

7. Demonstrated history working with counsel as required;

8. Exceptional written and oral communication skills – advocacy court experience is highly regarded;

9. Fits seamlessly into a young and dynamic team of professionals;

10. Thrives in team environments and has an ‘open door’ mentality and keenness to teach junior lawyers;  

11. Familiarity with LEAP is a bonus but not essential;

12. An interest and openness in working on commercial drafting matters when required is a bonus but not essential.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years PAE possessing the key skills required to run commercial litigation files.

This advertised position is for a full time, long term position however this position would also be suitable for any experienced lawyers with aspirations to join the bar in the future.
