Western Meat Packers
About the role
About Western Meat Packers
Proudly Western Australian, Western Meat Packers is a family-run meat processing business that has operated since 1983. From our Osborne Park facility, we process and supply quality meat products for domestic and international markets. Our business has grown significantly over the years, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, reliability and teamwork.
About the Opportunity
Due to continued growth, we are seeking reliable and hardworking people to join our Osborne Park operations on a permanent full-time basis. We have opportunities across different parts of the business, including meat production, packing, scanning and labelling, machinery operation, chiller and freezer work, and container loading.
Successful candidates will be placed in an area based on their experience, capabilities and the operational needs of the business. Some employees may also be trained to work across multiple areas over time.
These are hands-on and physically active roles. The work is performed in a fast-paced meat processing environment and may involve handling raw meat, working in chilled or freezer conditions, operating around machinery and completing repetitive manual tasks.
During the recruitment process, we will discuss the available work areas and their conditions with you so that you understand what the position involves.
Production and Packing Work
Depending on your assigned area, your duties may include:
Handling, sorting and preparing meat products for packing.
Packing meat, bones and other products into bags, cartons or containers.
Weighing, vacuum-sealing, labelling and scanning finished products.
Checking labels, product information and packaging for accuracy.
Sorting products according to type, weight, quality or customer specifications.
Operating packing, sealing, strapping or other production machinery after training.
Moving meat products and assisting with the movement of carcasses where required.
Stacking cartons onto pallets and preparing finished products for storage or dispatch.
Monitoring product quality and reporting damaged, contaminated or incorrectly labelled products.
Cleaning and sanitising work areas, tools and equipment in accordance with food safety requirements.
Logistics, Chiller and Freezer Work
Employees assigned to logistics or cold-storage areas may be responsible for:
Working in chilled or freezer environments while wearing the required protective clothing.
Scanning, labelling, sorting and locating cartons or pallets.
Picking and staging products for customer orders or export.
Building, wrapping and strapping pallets for storage and transport.
Manually handling cartons and moving products safely within the chiller or freezer.
Loading cartons, pallets or products into refrigerated containers.
Checking product quantities, labels and documentation before dispatch.
Assisting with stock rotation and maintaining accurate product traceability.
Using pallet-moving or materials-handling equipment where trained and authorised.
Keeping loading, storage and dispatch areas clean, organised and safe.
What the Work Is Really Like
Meat processing and cold-storage work is not suited to everyone. Before applying, you should be comfortable with:
Regularly handling or working near raw meat, bones and animal products.
The sights and smells associated with a commercial meat processing facility.
Working in cool, chilled or, for some positions, sub-zero freezer conditions.
Standing for extended periods and completing repetitive hand and wrist movements.
Regular manual handling, including lifting, stacking, pushing and pulling products within safe limits.
Working around production machinery, conveyors and moving equipment.
Wearing required personal protective equipment and food-production clothing.
Working to production requirements while maintaining safety, hygiene and quality.
Early morning starts and maintaining reliable attendance.
Our roles operate Monday to Friday, with early starting times. Packing and production roles commonly commence at approximately 6:00 am, although exact hours may differ between departments.
About You
Previous experience in meat processing, food production, warehousing, cold storage or container loading will be well regarded but is not essential. Training will be provided to suitable candidates who demonstrate the right attitude and reliability. To be considered, you will need:
A reliable and punctual approach, with a strong attendance record.
A willingness to undertake hands-on, repetitive and physically active work.
Comfort working with raw meat products and in chilled or freezer environments.
The ability to follow instructions, product specifications and safe work procedures.
The ability to work efficiently as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Basic communication skills and the ability to use scanners, labels or production equipment after training.
Current and suitable Australian working rights for permanent full-time employment.
Successful candidates will also be required to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
Why Join Us?
Western Meat Packers offers:
Permanent full-time employment.
Consistent Monday-to-Friday work.
Above-award rates of pay and applicable penalties.
Overtime opportunities when operationally available.
On-the-job training and opportunities to learn different areas of the business.
Long-term employment within an established Western Australian business.
A practical, supportive and team-focused working environment.
