Marsh Carney Saddlery
About the role
Love horses and wondering how to turn that knowledge into a career?
Marsh Carney Saddlery is looking for a motivated Equine Retail Trainee to join our Dubbo team in a full-time registered traineeship.
This is an ideal opportunity for a school leaver or someone at the beginning of their career who already has a genuine background with horses and wants to build a career in the equine and retail industry.
You'll receive on-the-job training while working towards a nationally recognised qualification in retail operations – gaining practical experience, industry knowledge and a qualification at the same time.
You don't need years of retail experience. We're looking for the right person with horse knowledge, a great attitude and a willingness to learn.
This is a registered traineeship, combining practical, on-the-job experience with formal training.
You'll:
Work towards a Certificate in Retail Operations
Receive comprehensive on-the-job training
Develop your knowledge of saddlery, equine products and retail
Learn valuable customer service and sales skills
Gain practical experience as part of an established equine business
Be supported by an experienced team throughout your traineeship
Your employment and training package will be tailored to the successful applicant, taking into consideration their age, experience and circumstances.
No two customers – or horses – are the same!
Working alongside our experienced Dubbo team, you'll learn how to:
Welcome customers and provide friendly, helpful service
Talk with customers about their horses and what they need
Assist customers in selecting suitable equine products
Develop detailed knowledge across our saddlery and equine ranges
Process sales and learn retail systems
Receive, unpack, replenish and organise stock
Maintain attractive and well-presented displays
Help keep the store organised, clean and welcoming
Work as part of a team to achieve store goals
As your knowledge and confidence grow, so will your responsibilities.
Horse knowledge is essential for this position.
We're looking for someone who has spent genuine time around horses and understands the basics of horse care, equipment and the equine world.
You might have grown up on a property, competed at pony club, campdrafted, shown horses, worked with stock horses, been involved in racing or simply spent years riding and caring for your own horses.
More importantly, you'll be:
Friendly and confident talking to people
Genuinely interested in helping customers
Reliable and willing to work
Keen to learn and take direction
Well presented and organised
Comfortable working as part of a team
Interested in building a career, not simply finding a short-term job
Previous retail experience is not essential – we'll teach you. Your horse knowledge and attitude are much more important to us.
This is a full-time position working 76 hours per fortnight, including rostered Saturdays.
Additional hours may occasionally be required during busy periods, with approved overtime paid extra.
Applicants must be available to work the required full-time roster.
Marsh Carney Saddlery is a family-owned business with a long history in the Australian equine industry.
For someone wanting to build a career around horses, this traineeship offers the opportunity to earn while you learn, gain a recognised qualification and develop practical skills that can open the door to future opportunities within retail and the wider equine industry.
You'll receive:
A registered traineeship
A recognised retail qualification
Paid, full-time employment
On-the-job training
Ongoing product and industry education
Employee discounts
A supportive team environment
Opportunities to develop and grow within the business
A package tailored to the successful applicant
If you're finishing school, have recently left school or are simply ready to take your first step towards a career in the equine industry, we'd love to hear from you.
If you know horses, enjoy working with people and are ready to learn, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
