About Our Role

Here at Simplot Ulverstone, we're seeking applicants for the full-time, permanent day work position of Maintenance Electrician.
Simplot Ulverstone has a proud history in the local community dating back to 1942, with our location on the banks of the Leven River ideally situated close to the rich, fertile soils where our potatoes are grown. We process more than 300,000 tonnes of potatoes from 165 Tasmanian growers each year, while employing over 450 people. Site capabilities and products include fries (coated and uncoated in a variety of cuts), sweet potato fries, potato gems and hash browns, in addition to eight automated packing lines. Our customers include leading QSR chains, major and independent supermarkets, and the food service industry.
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor - Controls & Electrical, the Maintenance Electrician will perform planned, scheduled and breakdown electrical activities on a wide range of fixed plant and equipment in alignment with the site's Maintenance and Production schedules. The role supports the optimisation of plant reliability, improvements in employee safety, and site continuous improvement (CI) initiatives.
The Maintenance Electrician will work a Monday to Friday (0700-1530hrs) day shift roster, with overtime and shift coverage as required. Working closely with the wider Engineering and Maintenance teams (including Mechanical, Planning, Stores and Control Systems), as well as the Production team, this hands-on technical role will provide electrical expertise to Simplot Ulverstone's operations by:
Identifying faults and performing breakdown repairs to minimise downtime and micro-stops caused by production machinery and equipmentInspecting, testing and maintaining machinery and equipment across production areas, plant buildings and facilitiesPerforming preventative maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance schedulesWorking with PLC and SCADA systems (Simplot utilises Citect), undertaking diagnostics, fault finding, programming and commissioning activitiesPerforming general plant and building maintenance work and undertaking specific project work as requiredUtilising MEX CMMS to update work orders, review asset history and identify maintenance trends and opportunities for improvement and innovationUtilising Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Teams, to support maintenance planning and communicationContributing to site continuous improvement activitiesParticipating in the site's monthly maintenance day roster (one Monday every four-week cycle, 0700-1730hrs)Performing assigned tasks in accordance with all Simplot Safety, Health & Wellbeing and Environmental policies and procedures
About You
Possess a 100% commitment to safety, health and wellbeing in the workplaceHold a Certificate III in Electrotechnology (mandatory)Hold a Tasmanian Electrical Practitioner's Licence (mandatory)A Certificate III in Instrumentation & Control would be advantageous, but is not essentialIndustrial maintenance experience would be highly regardedDemonstrated diagnostic, fault-finding and troubleshooting skillsAbility to read and interpret schematicsWorking knowledge of safety and quality systems and proceduresIntermediate user of Windows-based systems and CMMS (Simplot currently utilises MEX)Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft TeamsSound judgement and decision-making abilityHigh-level written and verbal communication skills, together with strong time management skillsWillingness to undergo a pre-employment medical, including urine-based drug and alcohol screening
