Software Development Manager

Professional Search Group (PSG) We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a high-performing development squad of approximately five developers, looking to expand, responsible for delivering new product enhancements and features.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys balancing software engineering with team leadership. You'll work closely with the Solution Architect to translate solution designs into well-defined delivery plans, guide the team through implementation, and ensure high-quality outcomes.

This is not a people-management-only position. You will remain actively involved in software development, contributing code, reviewing designs and pull requests, solving technical challenges, and leading by example.

Note, this is a Perth base role and a requirement to be in the office at least 50% of your work week.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of developers, including offshore resources.
• Partner with the Solution Architect to break solution designs into Epics and User Stories.
• Plan and oversee sprint delivery, ensuring work is progressing as expected.
• Contribute hands-on through coding, code reviews, and technical problem solving.
• Ensure solutions meet architecture, quality, security, and engineering standards.
• Manage team workload, remove blockers, and support developer growth.
• Communicate delivery progress, risks, and dependencies with stakeholders.

Skills & Experience

Required

• Strong hands-on experience with C#/.NET, microservices, SQL Server, and REST APIs.
• Experience building modern React applications.
• Solid understanding of scalable, reliable software design.
• Proven experience leading development teams while remaining hands-on.
• Experience planning work, managing sprint delivery, and mentoring developers.

Desirable

• Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with distributed or offshore teams.
• Mining, industrial, or safety-critical software experience.
