This is an identified position, only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants. Being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine requirement for this position.

We Help Ourselves (WHOS) provides a range of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) treatment programs in NSW and Queensland. Information on the range of services provided by WHOS can be found at www.whos.com.au

WHOS Penrith Day Program, located at Penrith, has a full position available for an Aboriginal AOD Worker. The position is 38 hours per week. This position is offered on a full-time basis; however, part-time arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities for the position are to provide the WHOS Day Program range of services to clients in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner. This includes the use of WHOS assessment and care planning tools, and group work materials. Training on the use of these will be provided.

The position involves:

• Supporting Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clients to engage, and remain engaged, with the service and to strengthen cultural identity, connection, and belonging
• Addressing harmful AOD use as it impacts Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people
• Provide AOD assessment & referral, case management, one to one & group support
• Provide AOD information sessions in a culturally appropriate manner
• Liaise with allied service providers, and in particular Aboriginal service providers

• Qualifications in AOD, Community Services, or a related field
• Experience working in AOD, mental health or a related field
• Networking experience, in particular with Aboriginal specific service providers
• Knowledge of Aboriginal specific AOD, health and community services in the region
• Demonstrated cultural capability, which includes knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing harm caused by AOD use
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current harm reduction approaches
• Sound written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy
• Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain). 

Remuneration: SCHADSI Award, based on qualifications and experience. Salary packaging is available.
