About the role
A unique private position for an experienced dog trainer
We are seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Dog Trainer & Handler to work with our dogs on a regular part-time basis at our private rural property in the Macedon Ranges.
This is a unique opportunity for an accomplished dog trainer who would enjoy working consistently with the same group of dogs, developing their training and behaviour over time and becoming a trusted part of their regular routine.
We are looking for someone with proven professional dog-training experience, strong practical handling skills and the confidence to work independently with multiple dogs of different sizes, ages and personalities.
The Role
The focus of the position is practical, consistent training that develops calm, confident and well-mannered dogs within a home and property environment.
Responsibilities will include:
Structured obedience and behavioural training
Individual and group training sessions
Lead walking, recall and boundary training
Reinforcing good manners and appropriate household behaviours
Developing and maintaining consistent training routines
Exercise, play and enrichment activities
Confident and safe management of multiple dogs
Identifying individual training and behavioural needs
Developing practical strategies to address unwanted behaviours
Monitoring progress and adjusting training approaches as required
Providing regular feedback and recommendations
General dog handling and care associated with the role
About You
To be successful, you will be an experienced dog trainer who is calm, confident, patient and consistent in your approach.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
Proven professional dog-training experience
Qualifications in dog training, canine behaviour or a related discipline
Strong knowledge of canine behaviour and body language
Experience confidently managing and training multiple dogs
Demonstrated success with obedience and behavioural training
The ability to tailor training methods to individual dogs
A practical, balanced and welfare-focused approach to training
Confidence working independently and taking responsibility for training sessions
Excellent communication and reliability
A genuine interest in developing a long-term relationship with the dogs and their owners
Current driver's licence and reliable transport
Experience in multi-dog households, behavioural training or working with a variety of breeds and temperaments will be particularly well regarded.
Hours & Remuneration
This is a permanent part-time position of approximately 12–20 hours per week, ideally across 3–4 regular shifts.
There is flexibility in establishing the regular working days and hours for the right person.
We are prepared to pay at the top of the advertised range for an exceptional candidate with strong qualifications and proven experience.
Why This Role?
Unlike a commercial training environment, this position provides the opportunity to work consistently with the same dogs and make a meaningful long-term difference to their behaviour, training and everyday routine.
You will work in a private rural setting with space for structured training, walking, exercise and enrichment.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with dogs and wants to become a trusted, long-term part of their lives and routine.
Apply
Please apply with your CV and a brief introduction outlining your dog-training qualifications, professional experience and approach to training.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to meet with us, with the final selection process including a paid practical session working with the dogs.
