About the roleThe Education Support position combines practical education assistance with youth engagement and program support. The role works alongside the SPARC Educator/Teacher, Manager, Case Workers and Youth Workers to support young people aged 10–13 who have disengaged, or are at risk of disengaging, from mainstream education. The position contributes to a safe, structured and culturally responsive learning environment through trauma-informed, strengths-based and flexible approaches.
The Education Support worker assists with the preparation and delivery of learning activities, provides individual and small-group support, encourages positive participation and behaviour, and helps young people build confidence, life skills, positive habits and pathways back into education. The position also supports transport, supervision, documentation and engagement with families, schools and relevant services as required.
Key responsibilitiesWork under the direction of the SPARC Manager and Educator/Teacher to prepare, adapt and deliver learning materials and activities
Provide one-to-one and small-group assistance to young people completing literacy, numeracy, project-based and practical learning tasks
Use hands-on, interest-based and flexible approaches to increase engagement and respond to different learning styles and abilities
Assist with educational assessments, learning observations and tracking progress against individual learning goals
Welcome young people into the program and establish clear expectations for safe, respectful and inclusive behaviour
Develop professional, respectful and trusting relationships with young people using trauma-informed, culturally responsive and strengths-based practice
Actively supervise young people during onsite learning, recreational activities, community-based activities, transport and transitions between sessions
Assist with the planning and delivery of structured activities, excursions, cultural activities, community events and other program initiatives
Provide transport for young people where required to improve access, inclusion, attendance and engagement in the program
Complete attendance records, engagement notes, observations, incident reports and other required documentation accurately and within required timeframes
Minimum Certificate III in Education Support, Community Services, Youth Work or a related discipline, and/or demonstrated relevant experience in an education, alternative learning or youth-support setting
Demonstrated ability to support learning activities and work effectively with young people who have diverse learning, behavioural, social and emotional needs
Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally responsive practice, particularly when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish professional rapport, maintain boundaries and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Ability to support positive behaviour, respond calmly to challenging situations and follow individual support, safety and risk-management strategies
Sound organisational, time-management and record-keeping skills, including the ability to complete accurate notes, attendance records and incident documentation
Current Queensland Class C Driver Licence
Current positive Working with Children Blue Card
Satisfactory National Police Check
Ability and willingness to transport young people in accordance with Community Gro policies and procedures
