Energy Trading Operations Analyst

We've partnered with a global trading company looking for an experienced Energy or Commodities Trading Operations or Middle Office professional to join a high-performing, collaborative team working closely with the head desk.

This is a hands-on role with broad exposure across the trading lifecycle. You’ll be responsible for ensuring trading activity is captured and processed accurately, resolving issues as they arise and working across the business to keep daily trading operations running smoothly.
Beyond the day-to-day, you’ll have the opportunity to help improve how the function operates as the business grows, strengthening controls, improving processes and introducing smarter, more automated ways of working.
The role
Your day will involve a mix of daily trading support, problem-solving and project work, including:

• Supporting trading activity across commodity futures, options and OTC products
• Monitoring trades through the lifecycle and ensuring issues are identified and resolved promptly
• Investigating cash, position and transaction discrepancies
• Managing trade confirmations, reconciliations and settlement-related matters
• Working directly with Traders to resolve operational issues and exceptions
• Liaising with brokers, counterparties and other external service providers
• Partnering with teams across the business on new trading activity and operational requirements
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and automation

As the platform develops, you’ll also have the opportunity to broaden your product and market exposure and contribute to building the operational framework supporting new areas of trading.

About you
We’re seeking candidates with 5+ years’ experience in Trading Operations, Middle Office, Trade Support or a similar function within a sophisticated trading environment.
You might currently work within a major power producer, investment bank, hedge fund, commodity or proprietary trading business or market maker.
Ideally, you’ll bring:

• A strong understanding of the commodities trade lifecycle
• Experience supporting listed and/or OTC derivatives and exposure to futures, options or other traded products
• Direct physical and/or financial energy and commodities experience
• Exposure to Python, SQL, VBA or other automation tools
• Strong reconciliation and exception-management experience
• The ability to investigate problems independently and see them through to resolution
• Experience working closely with Traders and other front-office stakeholders
• Strong attention to detail and an understanding of operational risk and controls
• A genuine interest in improving processes rather than simply maintaining them
