About us

Code Black Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster and hospitality group with a number of venues across Melbourne. Established in 2012, we have mastered our craft of providing the sublime and the ridiculous to each person.

Code Black Coffee is simultaneously a laboratory, a creative kitchen, a workshop, and a hub for connoisseurs of the dark art and science of coffee. This pairs and matches perfectly with our seasonally changing menus that celebrate imaginative modern Australian brunch cuisine. About the positions: 

Head Chef

We are on the hunt for an experienced Head Chef to lead a kitchen team. The Head Chef will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the kitchen including ordering, stocktake, rostering, cost control, maintaining high standards of food preparation/presentation and for leading by example and supporting and motivating the kitchen team. A high level of finesse, organisation, and creativity is required for this role to produce elegant and unforgettable food experiences.

Chef de Partie

The Chef de Partie is the back bone of the kitchen team, and will be involved in mis-en-place, service,  plating, stock rotation and general cleaning/organisation. This position will provide the opportunity to learn from some of the best. There are two CDP positions available - one based in the CBD and one based in South Melbourne.

Requirements from you

• Applicable trade qualifications and accreditations

• Previous experience in busy cafe, restaurant and/or fine-dining environments

• Creativity and knowledge of current food trends

• Takes great pride and passion in the food you produce

• Aptitude for preparation and planning, with strong organisational skills

• A natural team player who is happy to do their own thing when necessary but also loves the synergy of a great team

• Personal presentation & communication skills are imperative, along with a positive energy & attitude!

• Driven, ambitious and committed!

• Calm and collected - keeps a clear head and stays focused when it gets busy

• Availability on weekends, public holidays and peak busy holiday periods
