About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel – Corporate and Commercial Practice Group to join our National Legal team in Sydney or Melbourne.

Reporting to the Head of Legal – Corporate and Commercial Practice Group, you will provide timely, pragmatic and commercially focused advice across St Vincent’s diverse national operations. You will work on a broad portfolio of corporate and commercial matters supporting public and private hospitals, aged care, virtual care and corporate services.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer to develop deep sector expertise, work closely with senior stakeholders and contribute to agreements that enable healthcare innovation, research, technology, procurement and service delivery.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a trusted member of the National Legal team, you will:

• Advise on a broad range of government and non-government commercial contracts.
• Draft, review and negotiate services agreements, IT agreements, loan agreements, grant agreements, collaboration agreements and procurement contracts.
• Advise on research arrangements, including clinical trial agreements, material transfer agreements, intellectual property assignments and confidentiality deeds.
• Partner with the Group Procurement team on tenders, vendor agreements, purchase agreements and servicing arrangements.
• Provide advice on aged care contracts in collaboration with subject-matter experts across the National Legal team.
• Identify legal and commercial risks and translate complex issues into clear, practical recommendations.
• Provide advice at both strategic and operational levels within a complex regulatory environment.
• Build trusted relationships with executives, divisional leaders, finance, procurement and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with National Legal colleagues, share specialist expertise and contribute to matters across the broader team

About You

You are a solutions-focused commercial lawyer who combines strong technical capability with sound judgement and a genuine understanding of organisational priorities. You can assess complex issues, identify proportionate risks and deliver clear advice that enables informed decision-making.

You enjoy working closely with stakeholders and are confident managing a varied portfolio in a fast-paced environment. Your approach is responsive, collaborative and practical, and you are motivated by the opportunity to apply your legal expertise to work with genuine community impact.

You Will Bring

• At least five years’ post-qualification experience.
• A tertiary qualification in law.
• Admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of New South Wales or Victoria.
• Eligibility to hold a New South Wales or Victorian practising certificate without supervision requirements.
• Relevant experience gained within a major law firm or the in-house legal team of a large corporation or complex organisation.
• Demonstrated experience advising on a broad range of corporate and commercial legal matters.
• The ability to provide timely, practical advice at strategic and operational levels.
• Sound judgement and the ability to navigate a complex regulatory environment.
• Highly developed written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.
• Strong planning and organisational capability, with the ability to prioritise competing matters and meet deadlines.
• The confidence to work autonomously while contributing positively to a collaborative national team.
• A flexible, self-directed and solutions-focused working style.
• A commitment to St Vincent’s values and an understanding of the social and ethical considerations associated with health service delivery.
