About the role
Downlands invites applications by suitably qualified persons for the position of Junior School Experienced Teacher Aide. This position will work across the Junior School classrooms from Prep to Year 6.
This is a permanent, term time, part time (8.00am to 3.20pm), position (67.5 hours per fortnight) to commence Term 4, 2026.
We invite applications from experienced, energetic and innovative individuals with the ability to embrace and demonstrate an understanding of the particular ethos of Downlands as a Catholic MSC College.
The Teacher Aide role is a demanding one that requires the personal and professional qualities of initiative, maturity, confidentiality, loyalty and commitment. The role holder must manage time well, be self-motivated and always act with integrity, with the care of the child at heart. Downlands College supports the professional development of each staff member and seeks to fill this appointment with a person wishing to grow and develop their Teacher Aide career through a caring and connected staff.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
Ability to work effectively as a team member with staff in a student-centred learning environment
A passion for developing the learning behaviours, literacy and numeracy skills of students in the Early Years of schooling
Ability to consistently implement adjustments/measures to assist a student with a disability/learning difficulty
Well-developed interpersonal and written communication skills
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to use initiative in planning tasks,
Willingness to undertake professional development, training or guidance from the Curriculum Leader
Embrace working in an environment which values diversity and inclusion, particularly with respect to supporting students with a disability/learning difficulty
Current Blue Card (Working with Children) or the capacity to obtain.
Current First Aid Certificate or the capacity to obtain.
Desirable
Experience in working as a Teacher Aide in a primary school setting working across the classrooms from Prep to Year 6
Possess a Certificate III in Education Support or Certificate IV in Teacher Aide Studies, and/or previous experience in working with students with disabilities/impairments in a school setting.
Previous involvement in school-based learning support, literacy, numeracy and remediation programs.
SALARY
$34.17 - $35.62 per hour plus Super
