BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Seeking a suitably qualified FARREP Program Officer to join our health promotion team at Holstep Health. Working 3 days a week, the Project Officer will coordinate our Family and Reproductive Rights Education Plan (FARREP) to increase quality of care and change community attitudes to FGC.
YOUR NEW ROLE:
The FARREP Program Officer role is responsible for working in partnership with the community and the broader service system to develop health promotion initiatives that seek to understand and address the needs of African and Muslim Women in and around the area of Heidelberg West. The position focuses on health promotion and education activities that support the outcomes of the Regional FARREP (Family and Reproductive Rights Education Plan).
The FARREP Program seeks to increase quality of care and access to family, reproductive and other health services for women from communities who traditionally practice Female genital cutting (FGC). The FARREP program also works to change community attitudes to FGC, as well as preventing its occurrence.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
• Plan, implement and evaluate activities undertaken as part of the integrated FARREP health promotion plan.
• Plan and engage in community engagement and consultation to identify opportunities for relevant health promotion and education activities
• Provide supported referrals to African and Muslim Women, assisting them to navigate the service system
• Identify, engage and develop relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders.
• Increase access to reproductive health services for women and girls from targeted communities.
• Build the cultural and clinical capacity and expertise of mainstream health and community services, as well as specialist family & reproductive health services, to appropriately respond to the health and well-being needs of women and girls from targeted multicultural communities.
• Plan and implement evaluation strategies to effectively measure outcomes of projects and interventions
• Participate in relevant networks and meetings, in particularly the Regional FARREP Workers Network
• Contribute to the development of the Regional FARREP Health Promotion plans
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
• Relevant tertiary qualification in social work, community development, health promotion, welfare studies, youth work or a related field
• Knowledge of the Family and Reproductive Rights Education Program (FARREP) and/or understanding of the cultural and social context of sexual and reproductive health.
• A proven track record in planning, delivering and evaluating health promotion and education programs and activities alongside community services and primary health care services.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Well-developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills, including good report writing skills.
• Demonstrated understanding of the impact of the female Muslim experience and migrant/refugee experience on health and wellbeing.
Lived experience as a woman of African descent is highly desirable, ability to speak a community language would be well-regarded, and knowledge of the West Heidelberg community is also advantageous.
